If I thought of this board as more than an "interesting read" then I'd probably have my thousand posts (much more) by now. Most sane people have real jobs, families, etc. - and don't spend every waking minute on a bball fan site.

I am of course not totally sane in that sense. Not many true Rockets fans are, I suspect. I have a real job, but no real family, so I sponge all my emotions off of this board. (Getting laid doesn't count - that's lust, not love)

It just pisses me off to see any group claim supremacy over another. Granted, the "elites" have been here longer, but what does that really say? If anything, it says that they waste more of their potentially productive time here than tending to their families/jobs/children/etc. It probably says nothing. But...

It might say that they're the real dead-beats. If they have nothing better to do than criticize someone for expressing their feelings in an inarticulate way - and apparently getting off to it - then maybe they should look at why they're so obsessed with the idea of "seniority".

treeman, this is not necessarily so. As Behad/Newbiehad I have close to 3000 posts. However, I have a job that allows me to spend a large amount of time online without neglecting my duties. Moreover, 95% of those 3000 posts have come while I'm at work. I have a family, and I will not sit at the computer while my kids are home and available.

Having a lot of posts does not mean those posts were garnered at the expense of other, more important matters.

Then you appear to have a GREAT job, Behad.

I do not want to accuse anyone here of being negligent in their offline duties - be it father, boss, worker, son - whatever. It is not my place to accuse such (that is really my point - no one can do that and still maintain respect).

I have alot of respect for Houston fans. IMHO, Houstonians (even displaced ones) tend to understand the concept of respect. That's why I regard Houston as the friendliest place on Earth to visit/live. It's full of good people.

I've been to NY - it's full of a-holes. I've been to LA - it's full of wierd a-holes. I've been to Cleveland - it's full of cornfed a-holes with hot girlfriends. I've been to Mexico City - it's full of a-holes who only speak cabbie English (if you've been there, you know what I mean)...

Houston is the place to be - the only place I'd want to live. Though I must admit, Australia has always been attractive... I've never met a rude Aussie.

But Behad, if time is limited, how does someone go about getting 3000+ posts?

I mean, some can travel, and some can post. But the timer keeps going, right?

AMEN! I think its time for some of us "#2's" to come out and set this damn board straight. This bbs is spiraling down in a helix of flame and ash. Newbies are being ruthlessly attacked, ridiculed, and "ignored" with extreme prejudice. The end is near, my friends. And there is nothing thst can bring about our salvation. Our fate has been sealed by the "eliteists", all those bastards who have 1000+ posts and/or have been here since '99 (except me). March to your tombs, my Rockets brethren, for only a miracle of the greatest proportions could save us from the hell we are entering....

That, or a post from LHutz.

Damn, I'm ready for the season to start.

    :) smile.

Before This Thread Gets Closed --

There's a unwritten protocol to posting at the Clutch BBS -- you won't find it under any links or on a walls, but you catch on after a few posts. It keeps things nice and organized. :0)

When older posters attempt to police newbies, there's certainly not any malicious intenet involved, just a general concern for the health of the BBS. We've certainly seen what the ESPN boards have degenerated into.

As for elitism, the older posters just remind of schoolboys that grow up together -- tightly knit. Sure its a bit intimidating for someone just dippin' their feet in the water but like a said before, there just ain't nothin' malicious 'bout it. :0)

Just to Add Something Rockets Related --

I can't wait until the season starts -- I'm already daydreaming about it, and the more the fantasy plays out, the more I beleive Francis is the second coming.

My jaws on the floor like every other play -- kinda like my first years as a Rockets fan watchin' the Dream :0)

When its all said and done, do you think Francis can/will leave as large a mark on the city as did the Dream?

It's possible that Stevie might one day leave as large a mark on the city of Houston, but I think it would be much more difficult for him. Dream is a legend. For Steve to equal the impact that Dream has made on the city of Houston, he would have to surpass the number of championships Dream won during his tenure here. Expectations rise. Dream brought Houston their first taste of "the holy grail". That's not an easy shadow to get out from under.

It's so easy to just ramble about this evil "elite clique", yet not name any names isn't it?

How can this "elite clique" defend themselves and their posts if you guys aren't going to name off who some of them are?

If you guys want to champion a campaign to end the cliques on this bbs, then you need to step up and say who bothers you or try to set them straight. It's not hard to tell a person's he's acting like an elitist punk. This not naming names stuff is for the birds though, it means nothing.

I've got many reasons for posting so much in such a short time, I don't really care to share them on here though b/c I don't feel like it. I won't post as frequently anymore though as I am in the middle of moving into my apartment on campus and will have a full class load to deal with.

Don't act like your stepping up against the Evil Empire without at least stating who their major members are, all that does is make you sound like you're afraid of what they'll say back to you.

Shouldn't this thread be in the BBS Hangout now?

    Anyway, I'm gone...

Ha. Hakeem hardly played in the last 4 years. He only played in 47% of the games in the last *4* years. What good is that. Many of the games he 'played' in he was either about to be injured or was coming off of injury.

And yes... Cato hasn't cut it either. But this 'Without Hakeem' song doesn't cut it at all - we've barely had Hakeem.

I'm with BGM. This elite "clique" thing is just silly and I don't really see it. Some topics get responses, some don't. Idiotic posts and threads get ripped sometimes. A few people in this thread have said this "clique" goes about and attacks newbies and makes them leave. Examples? I don't see this happening either. This sounds like matronix/Coach Sampson consiparacy crap to me.

I'm among the elite...at least that's what my mommy tells me...Of course, she also tells me that the only reason I don't have any real friends is just 'cause they're all jealous...

I can't either, but then again maybe it hit a nerve...

Maybe I went too far is saying that there is a "clique"; that's probably not true in hindsight. It's not like there's some kind of organized group that has as its main purpose to exclude everyone who doesn't fit in. Message boards don't work that way, of course...

All I really meant to point out is that there appears to be a tendency among some of the senior members to automatically degrade and thereby exclude any newbie who doesn't immediately contribute a groundbreaking idea in their first thread. I don't like to see newbies scared off the board just because their first thread, first post, first 30 posts for that matter, don't bring about a world-shocking change in consciousness. Who knows what ideas that newbie might have to contribute down the road? Maybe just more crap, but for all we know they'll be the guy who comes up with that really earthshaking idea 6 months down the road?

So, I retract the part about there being a "clique" - in hindsight I seriously doubt that there's any organized effort that's working behind the scenes to exclude newbies from contributing to this fan BBS... I for one will freely admit that I am at times a dumbass and sometimes make mistakes. All the time, really.

But I still believe that there are "elitists" here, and that they do purposefully try to exclude some posters. And no, BGM, I am not going to start naming names. That would just start an ugly mudslinging fight, which would be pointless and have no real "winners". The #2s (and the other #1s, I suspect) know who they are anyway, and can separate them mentally from those respected seniors (who we all know). There's no good reason to start any unnecessary fights. Call it cowardice if you want, but that fact remains. :D

I guess all I really want to say is, Can't we all just get along?

(I know, I stole that from at least a hundred movies / passe scriptwriters...;) )

In answer to your question: Yes, every citizen in the Greater Metropolitan (NYC) area is an a-hole. All of them. Especially the CHUDs :D :D :D

"And then the cop robbed me, ran off with my bags. And then the CHUDs came..." Homer Simpson

How can we deny such undeniably undeniable evidence? :D
