Maybe they're trying to have both Silas and Hollins next to D'Antoni...anyway guys, the good news is that this season we all expected something really good and turned out **** for a max disappointment, maybe next season will be better than expected...shouldn't be that hard in fact...

That's what i fear, but we'll see, if we're going to sign some players like Anderson (maybe even throwing big money to them), i think it'll be cause Morey lost way too much power.

I sort of figured Hollins would be the guy.

Crazy. It's hard to imagine this is made up.

So who the f knows what's going on...

Also, for those wondering, this dude was with OKC for 6 years until this past year, so he's tight with Harden, and Durant. Well, I assume he's tight... they might hate him, lol, but they have a relationship.

That would make the MDA hire A LOT more bearable.

One thing about D'Antoni....

He got his teams in Phoenix out of the first round 3 times which is exactly 1 more time than JVG, Adelman, Mchale, and Bickerstaff did combined.

Don't think they'll be actual contenders again like in 2014, but I actually wouldn't mind it that much. At least with those Seth and Anderson, the Rockets on offense atleast would be Fun to watch.

Even if they hire Hollins or Silas as assistants, I don't have much hope for the Rockets/Hardens defense, so might as well go broke the other way lol.

Seth Curry/Bev
Harden/???
Ariza/KJ/Dekker
Anderson/Beasely
DMO/Capella

They'll give score 110+ points and give up a 110+ points, but it'll be fun!

Horrible horrible decision. He fixes nothing that is wrong with this team. Les going senile could kill this club.

the D'Antoni bandwagon is gaining momentum

FWIW: if the Rockets could get rex kalamian/Silas as an assistant coach along with D'Antoni... I may be grasping at straws here, but if I were to take an extremely positive outlook on this decision, maybe the rationale for choosing MDA would be something like this :

All four teams that are contending at the Conference Finals this year are ranked top 5 in offensive efficiency (GSW 1st, OKC 2nd, Cavs 3rd, Tor 5th), but that's not the case defensively. They're good defensive teams, but not on the same level as the Spurs, Hawks or the Pacers. In fact, the highest ranked team on defense is GSW at 6th, which means top 5 defensive teams of this season didn't make it to the Conference Finals.

Also, all four coaches of GSW, OKC, Cavs and Tor are not really known for their defensive acumen on the NBA stage. Billy Donovan is a possible exception, but he hasn't proven himself to be an elite defensive coach in the NBA yet, so maybe time will tell. Steve Kerr, Tyrone Lue and Dwayne Casey are definitely more offensive minded than the other way around. But they do have excellent defensive assistant coaches at their disposal.

This is just a speculation, but maybe the old saying 'defense wins championships' simply doesn't apply anymore, partially due to various offensive innovations that NBA has witnessed in the past 5 years or so. Maybe the offense has become so explosive and efficient (average TS% has been on the rise since the early 2000s), to the point where great defense is no longer capable of stopping great offense. You still need to be a top 10 defensive team in order to have a shot at the title, but being a top 5 offensive team might be more important at this point in NBA's evolution.

Curious why Rockets could not hire MDA as an assistant and JVG as HC. MDA was an assistant with Sixers so his career path was actually on the downswing.

Les is perplexing. I know he wants to play at light speed pace, but the Rockets have a huge problem on defense. And MDA does not have a clue about defense.

Not to mention that the Sixers sucked under MDA. So did the Lakers. And the Knicks before that. Precedence shows that future of this team does not look promising.

What a horrible decision. Seems Les has already made up his mind and the rest are basicaly for assistant coaches.

When this interview process started, didnt even cross my mind that this would be the result.
At least lets hope that D'antoni doesn't start to also intervene with FA signings.

Because morey has no business running an organization. Complete joke of upper level leadership.

Morey should be no more than the assistant advisor to a gm that crunches numbers and make recommendation. But let a competent experienced former player or coach type gm calling the shots.

Morey is out of his league and now its really starting to show, hes repeating Dwights time in LA? What an idiot.

Are we the only team that picks the assistants for the Head Coach?
