    question for older fans:

I couldn't find any highlight tapes of Smith. What player is he similar to today?

He is the complete point guard, he was quick, was excellent at ball handling, and he could shoot.

this is his first year in Houston. He averaged 17.7 points and 7 assists. That's insanely good.

Kenny was good for the system that he played for. Fans were on the fence with him especially when Cassell was playing well. I remember going to the games at the Summit where fans wanted Cassell to be starting over Kenny and as soon as Kenny would make a mistake the take out Kenny put in Cassell could be heard at the Summit. Still liked what he brought to the team.

One point where me and Tinman agree 100%. I welcome all of the negative things the media says about the Rockets as a team. Bulletin board material. Light a fire under these mentally weak guys.

look at this year, what's there to say that's 'nice'?

at least he's not making up some schtick like Stephen A Smith, who's obviously biased toward certain players and teams.

First of all, Bill Cartwright was a dirty bastid. Second of all, that pick and roll Kenny and Otis played without Dream was a thing of beauty. It seemed like a couple of weeks before anyone adjusted to that pick and roll. It was dominant.

    Yep.

Bill Cartwright WAS a dirty S.O.B. Don't suppose it matters if he was just dangerously awkward (my feeling), or old-school-malicious...but there it is.

...heard that Cartwright once threatened to break Michael Jordan's legs during a practice, in order to ward off the notorious bullying of teammates 'His Airness' was famous for at the time...I hear Jordan never bothered Cartwright again after that...

...and Kenny and O.T.'s pick-and-roll was masterful. Otis was a lottery pick of the Kings too, and played with Kenny for a brief time there. There was some obvious familiarity between the both of them.

And O.T. could handle the ball for a man of his size and strength exceptionally well...wouldn't hesitate to turn a hat-trick on a fast break---grab the board, barrel down the court, and finish on you with a dunk from some of those massive hands of his...

...like I said, the Rockets collectively and individually then, were a whole lot better than they ever really got credit for...

he would make a great head coach.

he had great coaching at every level, which he can emulate: dean smith, bill russell, rudy t

he's won 2 championships and will be well respected by the players.

I think this is the first step in him becoming our new color commentary analyst. Think about it, he would only have to work regular season cause playoff crews are national, Bullard would take Thursday games so Kenny can fulfill his tnt obligation unless the games are on tnt in which case one of the turner guys will work it. I think Kenny replacing Clyde would be awesome.

Le$ wouldn't pay Kenny at or above his TNT salary.

I've always liked Kenny Smith. He did his job and was never outspoken when Cassell emerged during the playoffs. A true professional.
