I do see shades of D-wade in his game. I am starting to get the feeling this guy could be big for us. Having a 6'8 wing span when you are guard is nothing to sneeze at. It also makes sense to my why the Wizards traded him away. What do Gilbert Arenas. Caron Butler, Randy Foye, Mike Miller and Nick Young all have in common? There are all Scoring Guards. The wizards have a Glut of High scoring swingmen, the last thing they needed was one more.
We'll just have to wait and see what unfolds in SL. Hopefully Morey won't get schooled again like he did by Dorsey's agent. No guaranteed contracts until after SL.
Sorry for the lateness. I feel asleep and then had other things to do. I'm halfway through Budinger stuff...my goodness, there's like 50 times more film available on Budinger than on Taylor. Maybe because of the early fame, or the major program, but it's like every scout out there knows Budinger well and has an opinion, while few really have spent time on Taylor. So I'm going to make one comment on Taylor's D, because I watched what little there was out there on his D. I like it. He has long arms and he moves okay and tries. I think there was only one possession where he didn't contest, out of the 25 I watched. He got perimeter blocks on his own man and on help defense on late switches. He fights through screens and around screens. As on offense, there was not any ISO against him that I remember...I watched this like 10 hours ago. Maybe that's the college game. I don't watch much college hoops except for the tourney, but anyhow, I can't really say much about his man defense because it wasn't tested in what I saw. Sometimes his rotation or screen fighting was late, but I just liked the fact that he hustled on D and has long arms. There was this one great possession where he switches to the shooter the very last second (shot clock was winding down) because the shooter beat his man off a pick and Taylor blocks the 3pt attempt and scoops up the ball and races down the floor for a dunk beating 2 other guys chasing him (one beside and one behind)....I forgot which game that was...maybe UH at UCF.
become a fan of him on facebook y'all!!! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jermaine-Taylor/55995798629?ref=s
There's a FAIR difference between Kirk Snydey and a guy who hit 3 triples PER GAME in college at 38%. Kirk Snyder with a good 3 point shot isn't a bad NBA player - let alone 2nd round draft pick. If he turns out to be that (Kirk with 3s) then I'll be pretty happy.
I'm a big Wafer fan but I really doubt this. Morey doesn't shell out 2.5 M of Les' money if Taylor isn't solid and ready to contribute sooner rather than later. Taylor has an NBA body. There is a thing called defense and it's clear who the better defender is. You can't teach heart. I'm very excited about this draft pick.
Uh Kirk Snyder pre hand injury wasn't bad at all. He was basically Wafer prototype 1.0, except that he played defense because Gundy gave him minutes, and we all know Gundy only gave minutes to people who play acceptable D. If he hadn't broken his hand and got buried when Bonzi Wells took over we probably wouldn't have let him go. How quickly people forget....
He improved his shot in the NBA, but it still wasn't as good as Taylor or Wafer. He was still only a 35% shooter. In his last 2 years in college, he averaged 30.8% on 3pt shooters. Taylor averaged 39% from the 3pt line. I still don't get the Snyder comparison with a jump shooter.
Taylor averaged 6.9 3pt attempts out of 16.2 FG attempts. That's 43% of shots from 3 pt line. Kirk favored taking most of shots close to the basket, even before his hand injury. He could make the 3, but his bread and butter was around the basket.
Lol don't worry I won't call you out, that's not my style. However let me point out that the decision to sign wafer can be written in a simple utilization equation: U=P-$-B where U is the utilization (or value), P is the players productivity, $ is the moolah and B is the baggage or other issues a player might have. If the U that the Rox will get is positive, then signing him is a good idea (unless you can find a replacement with better U than him). Supposing Wafer did indeed shoot himself in the foot and cut his $ in half, wouldn't that only make his overall value increase? IF as you said Wafer dropped his market value so much that the most he will get is like only 2Mill, then it makes all the more sense to sign him, tantrums or not. His low salary easily makes him disposable, if he starts going off we can bench him, no harm done. OTH if he has his head screwed on right you get a hell of a steal, a legit double digit scorer off the bench for peanuts. I think DD will agree with me when I say Wafer's value is still higher than JT and Bud right now, if only because he is already proven while those two are still huge question marks. That's why like I said, any way you slice it, the only time Wafer will be gone from the Rox is if he gets another offer or hates RA's guts and decides to leave us anyway. Look at Sprewell. Dude was 100X a headcase Wafer was (choking his Carlesimo etc), but he still got a contract afterwards. As they say in Bball, winning trumps everything, and when his head is on straight Wafer definitely helps you win.
Why are you telling me this? I didn't say they were similar that was another poster. I was merely saying Snyder wasn't bad at all to the dude who said he was another Snyder.
jermaine taylor > Von Wafer He strikes me as a smoother athlete with a more consistant jumper and a higher bball IQ. I think he could easily fill Von's shoes if we choose not to resign him.
There are way way too many factors that determine the success level of a college player in the NBA to even hazard a guess at how good Taylor may be. The odds are certainly against him. But there is something to be a little pump about to get a player with a an indomitable scorer's temperament. Guys that have a whole bag of tricks to get the ball in the bucket and know they will beat the defense. (It summer DD, time to day dream happy thoughts) <object width="400" height="300"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allownetworking" value="all" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="flashvars" value="config=http://www.fandome.com/xml/jwConfig.php?vid=110284%26width%3D400%26height%3D300" /><param name="src" value="http://flash.fandome.com/sportsbox.swf" /><embed src="http://flash.fandome.com/sportsbox.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" id="videoId" name="videoId" allowscriptaccess="always" allownetworking="all" quality="high" allowfullscreen="true" wmode ="transparent" width="400" height="300" flashvars="config=http://www.fandome.com/xml/jwConfig.php?vid=110284%26width%3D400%26height%3D300"></embed></object><div><a href="http://www.fandome.com" title="Sports Videos, News, Blogs"><img src="http://www.fandome.com/img/poweredBy.png" style="border:none;" alt="Sports Videos, News, Blogs" /></a></div>
wow dr. pangloss . not a bad comparison, in the best of all possible worlds . i like the kid from what little i've seen. if he isn't traded he ma indeed be wafer's replacement. he's got potential. maybe not bernard king potential , but i like what i see. i think he'll ne much better than budinger.
Really? And you got this because of his games in a 3rd tier NCAA conference? I guess we shall see...but I think Von getting 10ppg in the NBA is much more impressive. DD
dakota, i like von. he's an exciting player and i want him to succeed but he has a glaring weakness that i think will ultimately hold him back. he is a complete knuckle head.
It has nothing to do with ppg. Wafer scored 10 ppg because he was given an opportunity. I think there are alot of guys in the nba who could score if given that opportunity to play more minutes and take more shots. I think Taylor has superior shooting skills and a better overall feel for the game. I also think Wafer's finishing and his 3 point shot are overrated. The book is out on him now. When he gets the ball in the half court he is going to his right and he's not looking to pass. That is pretty simple to stop. If sasha vujacic can throw you off your game, I'm just not impressed. Von exceeded expectations big time last year and he delievered exactly what we needed at the right time. But that doesn't mean that he's the only player capable of helping the team with scoring. Simply put, I think if given a similar opportunity, Taylor would outperform Wafer because his shot selection is better, his jumpshot is more consistant, and he is a stronger finisher.
Holy crap. With Spanoulis, Langhi, Nachbar, et. al their NBA performance didn't matter, because of their "potential". With Taylor, his "potential" doesn't matter. I don't get it.
