I was going to make a thread about this too. I was wondering who Fox was picking up. I thought it was somebody from another station. They made it sound this way. I did a little lookup, and it was some lady from South Carolina. Disapointing.
His last day at KTRH was maybe six weeks ago. Presumably he took some time off and started there for the basketball season. Why? Job security and career advancement. Radio people know KTRH stands for "Keep the Resume Handy."
Got that right! Quite a few former KTRHers are friends or acquaintences because one of my closest friends worked there for 7 years.
If he's such a great analyst, why couldn't he hold down the @am spot on Sporting News? The guy is the most negative sports talking head I've ever heard & if he's gonna get so pissy with callers, wtf bother even doing a show? What teams/athletes does the guy admire anyway? The frontrunners? The Yankees, Patriots, & Lakers? Sorry, but he can be as smart & as analytical as a freaking sports supercomputer but I don't get the guy. Sports are not just about the numbers...
Wow...reliving my first time calling in to Rich and Charlie. That was fun... Hah. Funny the enjoyment people can get from being on the radio/tv. I'm all about prize trolling nowadays though. No time for calling in. Not that I ever win anything...but still.
Guess it'd help if you guys knew what I was talking about. http://bbs2.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55196
My 8th grade history teacher was Matt Thomas's dad. Matt Thomas worked for the Rockets when they won their titles. He brought his Rockets Championship ring to class and passed it around. I got to put in on my finger and everything. That ring was HUGE. On another note, I used to love Bob Kemp's show. The brutal honesty used to have me rolling.
He opted to leave Sporting News Radio on his own. He's so good now that he has his own solo show for the 3 to 5 pm time slot in Tempe. He had a sidekick when the show first started but the guy was kicked off because he added no substance to the show. He's only negative to callers who dont make any sense.
Bob Kemp is a conceited, bitter a-hole who had no business being near a radio station. Any substance he brought to his show was drowned out by his enormous ego and rampant negativity. He made Papa Joe Chevalier (sp?) look like a good national radio host by comparison, and that was hard to do. And it doesn't matter if 610 gets competition, it will continue to be the best product on the market. Lance, John, Rich and Charlie just set the bar too high.
No one was more bitter than Ken Silverstein. Remember that guy had the show before Jim Rome’s on Prime Sports (LOL, are they still around). When he got his spot taken, I heard him about 3 years later doing the game reporting for Sporting News Network. He was bussed down that far. Remember he used to call the Cowboys the Crackwagon and he ragged on that team everyday I swear.
If Sporting News is coming back to KILT, it will force me to listen to the station much more often and leave the XM Radio asleep. I used to love their national shows back in the day, especially Arnie Spanier in the 11pm time slot when I was working lots of evening shifts. Getting rid of the horrible *Dan Patrick show and all the crapped out ESPN broadcasting is a VERY good thing. Good riddance if this is true. * Worst-show-ever. BTW- I may be in the minority, but I too likes me some Richard Justice stories, and the morning show saved me from the departure of the KLOL crew of the Boner, Pruitt, etc...Love the early show.
I called into Arnie Spanier a few times back in the day. One particularly funny call was me calling him drunk during game one of the 1998 Finals. I asked him how much would it take for him to kick Papa Joe Chavlier's ass. He said a cheeseburger. I also called in mid-1997 football season to predict Ricky's Heisman and record-breaking run the next season.
Bob Kemp, loathsome though he is, is still better than two of those guys. KILT is very arrogant and needs to be taken down. Still, I do like two of those four guys.
Anyone remember that dude named "Ferrell"? I think that was his name. He's bumped around from market to market. I think he was syndicated at one time. Definately an aquired taste.
He was in Houston radio for a number of years. I don't remember him being as obnoxious as when he was on that national show.
