I'll never understand how people can hate Dan Patrick and not say anything bad about Jim Rome. It simply boggles my mind. Dan Patrick is a godsend compared to Rome. Get rid of that crap. Keep Patrick.
I said it a few posts ago and i will say it again...Can't stand Rome. The guy says the same sentence 4 different ways to take up air time. It's so annoying. He drags everything out and it's not really fun to listen to or watch on TV. He basically speaks about sports 20% of the time the rest of it is just nonsense. Compared to Rome, Patrick is good. But to be honest i really like the late night guys cause all they do is really talk sports and nothing more. That is much more enjoyable than all those marketed shows after sponsers and full of crap.
Heh. Others could. Stack: I agree about the late night guys. Todd Wright and Bob Valvano (on weekends) are great. Nothing but sports and interviews. It's like they're too tired to try to be funny.
Yeah Todd Wright does a great job. Since i leave work late every night that's who i end up listening to and they do a good job of talking about all the major topics with getting callers in and doing interviews. There is no extra fluff added that makes you want to shoot yourself.
I used to like Dan Patrick and hated listening to Rome. I've completely flip flopped. Rome can be annoying at times but he's better than Patrick and Dibble. Everytime you turn on the show you hear Dibble laughing in the background.
It would be nice if the migraine that is 610 got some competition. But in the end, I doubt it matters much. These days, from ESPN TV to ESPN radio to Jim Rome to the 610 local guys, it's not about sports anymore. Now, it's all attitude and personality and it is an incessantly boring for me. I agree with Stack24, the guys that keep it sports without the silly fluff are far preferable. But I would assume that a new station would try to mimic the personality driven approach of 610 et al, and they are likely to be even worse at it than 610.
Funny you should say that. I bumped into one of the major sponsers last night at some shindig my finacee' dragged me to. He was telling me that 790 is definitely going to become a CC sports channel. Apparently, they tried to get Rome to go with them, but he had a sense of loyalty to 610 since they stuck by him when his ratings were ****. Apparently, CC now has ESPN secured for 790 and since they also own the rights to Fox, they won't let Infinity use them. That leaves Sporting News. He also said that Vandameer may move into the old Patrick spot, and John and Lance would go 7-11. He said that 610 is really pumped about the changes and that they're committed to blowing 790 outta the water. I hope he's right, I'm looking foward to having both. I sent an e-mail to Chance to confirm, but he hasn't e-mailed me back.
"Isn't SR610 one of the original Rome stations though? I'd have to imagine he'd have a little say over what station he was on." "Apparently, they tried to get Rome to go with them, but he had a sense of loyalty to 610 since they stuck by him when his ratings were ****." Sweet. Monkey...monkey...monkey...
Nor will he. There are some exciting things going on but I will be the first to admit that going from a monopoly to a duopoly (is that a word) sucks. Personally I am stoked about the stuff around the bend. Your friend knows his shiznit but is not 100%.
If 610 loses ESPN radio and brings back Sporting News, I may never listen to another radio station besides 610 again. ESPN is everywhere. Radio, TV, magazines, video games, internet. It's overkill. We need an alternative. I used to love Sporting News. I never did like that move when 610 got rid of it. I miss it. Oh, and Chance. Any chance you can ship Willie B and Richard Justice to 790?
and the Golf Hour. I like Sporting News Radio, but Bob Kemp sucks. I remember he isnt there anymore. I am a loyalist to Sports Radio 610. But competition is healthy, and that doesn't hurt.
Well, at least now I won't be force to listen to Rome, Tom Tyman (sp?) and this fishing show any more. Thank GOD there will be actual sports radio early mornings from Thursday - Sunday. I can't stand that other nonsense!
Justice ain't goin' nowhere! I loves me some Justice. He's opinionated, educated, and motivated. I love him. I want a gambling show once a week that ALL of the handicappers go into. Thursday nights at 8. I also want a gaming show (X Box, PS-2 GC, GBA, PC), a Sunday NASCAR show out of football, and a bunch of other stuff...
NASCAR? NASCAR? Freaking NASCAR? We have to hear from bumbling idiots like Longhorn Mike, or whatever his name is, and Mike and Dairy Ashford, and Mike in Memorial, or whatever their names are. Now we have to hear from Earnie, and Jimmy, and Dale? It's fine I guess. The way it's setup, its fine, except that the end of the NASCAR season runs through the start of Football season. A Handicapping show is about every single day, on everybody's show.
