He has had opportunities to go to NY for more money and turned it down. He said he does not want to move. As many people in Houston care about soccer and tennis as anywhere else he would go. You have a point on hockey (although it is not as popular as you may think).

This x10000. Charlie is good, but his overwhelming snark and general lack of enthusiasm is just so draining at times. That lack of passion is slowly turning into flat out laziness and disinterest in his own market, and it is hurting his show. He needs a change of scenery. That, or an optimistic counterweight to keep his listeners from killing themselves.

As for the rest of the list...

Innes - Completely in over his head, still. Waiting for the day Rich Lord finally snaps and kills him on air. Every time I listen to him I think of that Family Guy episode with the two shock jocks, "Weenie and the Butt".

Gwinn - When people say he "sounds too much like Limbaugh", they're not kidding. He got into radio specifically for the purpose of doing political talk, and he does it on his own time. So, still a show for idiots by idiots. Funny thing is, I've heard the guy do some narrative reading work, and it is fantastic. He's in the wrong business, IMO.

Zierlein - I feel so bad for Matt Jackson that this guy basically got shoe-horned into his first primetime gig. I listened to Matt & Adam in the morning on 790 pretty religiously, some of the best radio I have ever heard, then they stuck Lance in there and basically said "NOW KISS". It killed the comedic chemistry of the show and has now become Lance Zierlein & Friends.

...by people who aren't from Houston, don't care for Houston, and don't mind listening to someone that doesn't know basic pop culture facts. I guess there really is a large contingent of that type of people in Houston if Rich Lord has that many loyal listeners.

610 pairing RL with Innes is poetic justice cause they deserve each other; it also probably says that 610 is running out of actual good radio partners for Rich Lord, seeing that others have quit to get away from him.

I like Matt, Wex and Lance but they have to move Lance to a different slot so Matt & Wex can recapture the mojo they have together. The Big Show is pretty good, but it's much less than the sum of it parts. You can't have 3 very opinionated guys on air at the same time.

Basically, AM790 has three very good morning concepts: Matt/Adam, Lance and the new In The Trenches. Problem is there aren't enough hours in the morning for three shows. They need to do something else. My solution: Start off with Matt/Adam and follow up with Lance/Kalu/Koch for NFL talk, especially since Lance's strength is the NFL. He can also smooth over the rough edges, carry the show and take some pressure off the two ex-NFLers. When Kalu or Koch want some time off or one of them leaves the station, you still have two guys left over with Lance as the professional.

That would be a great solution, and probably what they should've done to begin with, but it's hard to put the cat back in the bag now. Lance would definitely give ND and Koch some much needed professional polish, it would pigeon-hole him into almost exclusively NFL talk, but that's his wheelhouse. ND and Koch would have to take a major backseat to Lance carrying the show to make it work as well. It is an interesting concept though and something they should explore. Plus it gives them major flexibility in their lineup for days when guys are out.

I just don't think Jackson and Zierlien work well together, they seem to butt heads quite a bit, and it is becoming increasingly less "ha ha" arguing (as it usually is when Matt & Adam argue) and more "you're a dumb motherf***er" arguing. When they were talking about Pacquaio-Bradley earlier this week, I thought somebody was going to throw a punch in studio.

Basically Lance has a very sensitive bull**** meter that goes off a lot when Matt talks. He knows Matt talks out of his ass a lot and won't let him get away with it. Matt basically needs to stop reading DD's posts and drop the "I'm right because I said it" act.

I just don't think the three man booth works
too many voices. I cannot say which on should do but
I think they have one too many chefs .. .
I liked Matt and Adam . . . and figured Lance was there
until they could figure out how to get Gwinn out of contract
then ND and cook came along . . .which I thought Lance from 10-12 would have
    been good . . .
    I like ND and Cook though . . .

    I dunno . . it is still good . . but like i said . . too many folx

Nick Wright could score some points with 610 listeners if he kicked Gibson in the nuts on air. So sick of hearing about Lopez's dog, AAU basketball coaching career, backyard cookouts and his smartest guy in the room act. Nick Wright and Brian Straw would be an improvement over Lopez and anyone else.

The other things that sucks is that 610 talks about live and "local" radio and most of the talent are fans of other teams.

IIRC Matt Jackson was very excited when Lance came over, and I don't think it was canned excitement. He was teasing it with excitement heavily on twitter before it happened.

It's possible that that's changed now that they've worked together so much. I think Matt almost likes having those angry arguments like the Pacq/Bradley one...but at the end of the day I think they respect each other and leave the battles on air. I like Lance and still like the show but he has definitely diminished MJ and even more-so Wex. I like Wex's takes but he just struggles to get through over those two.

And btw I'm almost positive that Lance will be on with Koch and Kalu regularly during NFL season.

tonight on mighty after dark that dooshnozzle dylan gwinn reported that steven a. smith had tweeted the only team dwight howard was interested in signing an extension with was the rockets.

then, after about 10 minutes of patting himself on the back and hyping up the story, his producer told him it was a fake twitter account and totally blew him out of the water.

    anyone else hear this?

this guy is a total dope and has no business hosting a radio show. he's a joke.

I heard the first report. Then I got out of the car before his producer corrected him. So I spent all last night under the impression that the Rockets were now in the driver's seat to get Howard...until I read your post just now.

    **** you, Dylan.

I just heard on the SportsRadio610 Best of Recap, a segment of MAD radio discussing how Josh Innes and Mike Meltser went to go see Magic Mike together....

Yeah, sounds terrible. Nothing worse than radio hacks that think their audience cares about them on a personal level. Just give me facts and information, no fart jokes please.

I don't get why people hate Josh Innes so much. Maybe it's because I am the same age as him but I feel like I can relate to him better than many of the other hosts. Rich Lord is OK but a bit boring and "safe" for me. Barry Warner is unbearable, I instantly change the station when I hear his voice. Nick Wright has potential but it's too soon.

I like the afternoon 790 show too (who is that?). Unfortunately I don't always get 790 with good reception and 1560 even less.

Early afternoon is Matt Thomas. 3pm-7pm is Charlie Pallilo (best host in town, in my opinion).

Could 610 have picked a worse guy than the new morning dude? He comes off as a casual fans esp when it comes to the NBA. He continually cites points and rebounds as the end all for everything. What a joke.

It's like a game I play with myself. How long can I last before annoyingly changing the station.. They briefly mentioned Kris Humphries today and Lopez said he's like Asik hehehe...what an annoying laugh. The two players couldnt be any more different.
