They publish a dozen or so papers around the US, all use the same layout, graphics, movie reviewer(s?)...click on the map on the left side of houstonpress homepage if you're really that interested.
Rich Connelly does a lot of the sports coverage and he's hated pro basketball going way back to his Public News 'Sports for Heretics' column. The paper used to be better (not re: Rockets, just in general) before it got bought by the chain. And even after that they used to have some really good writers (Brad Tyer, Shaila Dewan, Lauren Kern, Lisa Gray, Bob Burtman, Steve McVicker, Michael King, Allison Cook, Edith Sorenson and a lot of others), but these days all they have is Tim Fleck (if he's even still there) and John Lomax, the first decent music writer there since Brad left. They cleared out a bunch of their better writers one day about five years back to save money, firing specifically on seniority and keeping the cheap, sucky writers. After several years of working there, the fired writers were escorted out by security immediately upon their firing. That paper sucks in so many ways.
True. Even though he would rip on the Astros too, he did so as a surly and disappointed fan. He just plain hates basketball.
Sounds like a big ol' ripoff of the Austin Chronicle, though the AusChron may be a ripoff of some other paper. All I know is that they're not owned by New Times.
Then I might just have to cry. I love the Rockets more then anyone I know. But I am not going to sit here blindly and worship them. They suck, but yet I am here on this freakin website 24/7. That shows my love for them.
Kind of...in a strange, sorta twisted way. You're like a stalker for basketball. It's a love/hate relationship.
Hmmm...I never used to bash the Rockets this much. And honestly I haven't bashed one player this year. I just dislike (to put it mildly) Van Dumpy. I love the Rockets and it depresses the crap out of me to see teams like Suns and Spers kicking ass while we continue to suck.
The paper is nothing more than a front for p*rn ads. That's how they are able to give the paper away for free. They've been against every new stadium and arena and hate sports in general. I wouldn't wipe my ass with that paper. It's the worst thing since sliced bread. Steve Francis
I love the Houston Press. It's free and I use it to line the bottom of my hedgehog's cage. I think it will be suitable for paper training our puppy as well.
I think the Houston Press is running out of things to write about. Has anyone else noticed some of the ridiculousness of their cover stories lately?
< sarcastic > Good thing you're a fan... imagine if you weren't... </ sarcastic > It's almost shameful to be associated in the same page as this dude... With friends like these... ------------------------------ Anyway, I am glad it's just "The Houston Press" which we know as a low scum paper, and not professionally-acting Chronicle.
