I was there in 2009 during the relays. People were everywhere, but they were mostly underage, so no one was actually in the bars. They weren't buying things - just hanging out. 6th Street is not designed for that kind of volume of people when none of them go inside anywhere. No one who was of age could navigate the people to get into the bars. The movie theater had to let people out through an alleyway because there were hundreds of people blocking the front entrance and you couldn't get out that way. That means that no one was able to get in for the late movies either. There was no sense of structure or crowd control. It was just a mass of people. If my business was downtown, I would have shut down that evening because it would have been pointless to be open since I would have had no actual customers.
Exactly my point, people don't even go into the clubs, they stand there in the street moping around... went downtown this year during relays and let me tell you, I'm probably never going out during relay weekends again. Too many people, the occasional gunshots fired, too many cops for me to feel comfortable.
The minute I can find a job in Austin that matches what I have in the energy industry here in Houston I'm heading to ATX for good.
Please, this shouldn't even be close. The only reason Houston is leading the poll is because this is a Rockets site with a bunch of biased Houston homers. If you just look at the natural cities themselves and *exclude* cost of living or job markets (those are unrelated outside factors), no one in their right mind should pick Houston.
Natural cities? And why should you exclude cost of living or job markets? Those are encompassed by the cities. You're talking about everything the city offers, social, professional and otherwise.
Uh, yeah, it is segregated. So far there has been atleast two people who freaking live there that agree. So....STFU. Thanks. I said MAYBE about the Cali implants. I'm not the first person to mention it, actually it may have been an Austinite. The people in Houston are much friendlier, I don't even think that's an argument, it's mentioned in EVERY Houston vs Austin thread for a reason. So no, I would say my opinion isn't bull****, sorry. Nothing shuts down in Austin during SXSW or Mardi Gras even though there is more crime during those events. Why is that? I do remember when Katrina victims came here, not one FREAKING store needed to close down. No malls needed to shut down. LMAO! We don't freak out when people from out of town come visit, no matter the color. Austin just doesn't like their minorities out of their little sections.lol And Austin food sucks. A few good BBQ places, that's about it. Park and nature areas, wow. Because there aren't any parks in Houston. Oh how Austin looks so pleasing. Well you know what? When you see a hot chick, she looks really hot the first day or two, then you start to not notice. Yeah, looking at those rocks and hills do get old after a while. Music scene, here we go. You can't talk to someone from Austin without them bringing up the "live music capital of the world" crap. YES, you have lots of live music, but its mostly mediocre music at best!! So what! Like I said, Houston had EVERYTHING Austin has, but Austin doesn't have everything Houston does and the end of this thread should have been when Austinites listed the proximity to Houston as a "Pro." And one last thing, The HOUSTON Rockets play in HOUSTON
Fixed. Even though SXSW and Mardi Gras produces more crime, I bet your out enjoying the hell out those festivities aren't ya?

I don't know, and since I don't I'm not going to act like it's not a possibility like others around here. I do know, that Galveston would get as much as 200,000 visitors during that weekend and that's a lot of people for such a small area. Much different that 50,000 for the entire city of Austin. By the way, Galveston isn't Houston.
So I'd like to at least some stats for everything you are saying, it seems like you have access to sources that rest of us don't, mind sharing us some of those statistics for the crime and the visitor? Might be easier to convince
I live in the Greenspoint area of Houston and that looks like Greenspoint mall on a very busy weekend, not really a big deal. That video makes you afraid?
I'll produce the links if you go away forever. You should anyways since this is a HOUSTON Rockets fan forum. Do we have a deal? I'm the racist? Your the one that assumed that everything shut down due to high crime rates etc.. during the Texas Relays when that simply isn't true. You want to know why you made that assumption?
Nope, learn to read, go back several pages. I didn't know you had to be from Houston to be a Rockets fan. OH BTW, I am from Houston. NO WAY If you don't have the links it's fine, I was hoping you wouldn't look like a complete idiot in front of everybody else seeing your throwing out stats without really backing them up
Ok, maybe not that part, but is that against the law or something? Looks like a bunch of people having a good time and I see business owners lowering the gates as people just walk by doing absolutely nothing wrong. That just supports my argument more than anything. There was NO reason to close up any of those businesses. Maybe there was some trouble after the patrons saw shop managers shut the gates right in their face for nothing....
