I hate the drivers in Austin.....But the scenery is beautiful in that part of Tx. We just got a house in Bee Cave off of 71. Beautiful area, nice proximity to Lake Travis (one of my favorite state parks Pace Bend....and Hamilton's Pool). Plus the view is amazing from the house. Love the hills.
I love Austin. Lived in Houston from 1976-1996. San Antonio from 1996-1998. Austin from 1999-2002. Houston 2003-Present. Although Houston is my home, there are things here I absolutely cannot stand. Living in Austin, there was a lot more that I liked. If family wasn't an issue, I would be in Austin right now.
I've lived in all the major Texas cities (Houston, Austin, Dallas, San Antonio) I dislike Austin. Didn't care for the people or the city. I actually would rather live in San Antonio or Dallas again than there. And those two cities kinda suck.
Given the choice, most people would choose Austin over Houston, as it's not really a fair comparison. Better scenery, better nightlife, healthlier, cleaner, better planned, and less sprawl. Nothing much to do in Houston besides eat. Tons of people are forced to be in Houston due to their careers. The job market in Austin is somewhat limited, and has taken a hit since large tech firms like AMD, Freescale, Spansion, and Dell have all cut heads substantially over the past couple of years.
seriously. it takes 30 minutes to get somewhere that would normally take 10 or 15 if the roads were wide open. that's not necessarily gridlock
Round Rock I don't consider a pro team. 30 minutes??? Are you flying on a plane? It seriously took me an hour to go from campus to Westlake area yesterday during rush hour, and that's like a 10 mile trek at max. It's obviously not as bad as Houston (hurr durr Houston is the 4th largest city in the world) but for a smaller sized/medium city, Austin is bad due to terribly small sized highways.
that's a nice area. most people who visit austin or lived here during the college years don't really explore much outside downtown and UT. I miss Houston's larger restaurant scene and the Rockets (i don't care about the Astros or Texans)
Austin is BEEEEautiful, no doubt about it. But most of the people who live there are stuck up and seem to think that their **** doesn't stink. People in Houston are much more real and down-to-earth IMO.
^ What about just visited? What about just "have seen photos of both"? What about just watched videos of each? Could we vote then, mister POLL police?
Wrong. Maybe the older generation has that mindset. But the majority of people in Austin are very open minded and easy going.
