I agree with this 100%. I wasn't really complainging though...? And I apologize if my comparison was bad. I do realize there is a distance difference there. Although I used to get from Humble to the downtown exit in 20-25 minutes max so I dont know about 30+.
i vote austin - lived here since 1995. but houston today is a much, much improved place to hang out since i lived there - especially the mid-town area. traffic in austin can be bad at times, but if you know your way around its not difficult to avoid. houston traffic is not that bad either, compared to other cities of its size. i work in s.a. alot and imo its got the worst traffic of the 3 - especially 1604 (their beltway 8). very poor planning wrt their road-building. if you are into outdoors type stuff - swimming, biking, running, hiking, nature - its a no-brainer. if you are into live music or music in general its a no-brainer. austin is a more expensive place to live, but its got its appeal. and i like the fact that geographically speaking it is a relatively small town, especially compared to houston. and for jobs, both cities are good places to find a job - houston w/ energy and austin w/ tech, government and education. can we all at least agree that dallas sucks!
Your bus driver must be driving like a bat out of hell then. I could get from 1960 to the downtown exit in no less than 20 minutes going 75-80 mph with no traffic. You must be sleeping on the bus like I used to. And 15 minutes from Townsen to downtown in a Metro bus is just unrealistic. Come on now.
Lol. This is what I'm talking about. I don't think driving out to Lockhart, Elgin, Lexington, etc. is leaving Austin. When I referred to good BBQ, those are the places I'm talking about. If you don't count that as Austin, then I really have no reason to go there. For me, driving 30-45 minutes isn't leaving a city. Not sure if that's good or bad sometimes.
Those towns are not part of Austin... Green Mesquite and The Salt Lick are both incredible BBQ venues and they are both within city limits.
Green Mesquite just closed down, the one on 71, if that is what you are talking about. And the Salt lick is in Driftwood...10 minutes from my front door. DD
Their food is VERY overrated. The best thing about the Salt Lick is their BYOB policy and the outside atmosphere.
No no no...it is fantastic food.....and you can also add in Rudy's...... The Salt Lick is wonderful, especially if you know how to order around the menu and get things like "Moist" briscuit instead of regular. Or the habenero sauce.... Just so so good. DD
thank you. out of towners always want to go to the salt-lick, but i can name 6 or 7 better bbq joints w/in a 30 mile radius of town. ill even take pok-e-jo's over salt lick.
Pok-e-jos over Salt Lick? Salt Lick may not be the best, but it's 1000's times better than the crap served at Lub....I mean Pok-e-jos.
