With the NFL season officially over, when was the last time you were this optimistic about a Houston professional sports team? I think the time for me was the 04-05(?) Season of the rockets when we had Bob Sura, JB, healthy Yao and TMAC. After so much adversity last season and to not only make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history but to win the division, and first playoff win behind the 152 pick at qb. Such a young and aggressive defense being engineered.by a genius of a DC. Schaub coming back from injury. I really just can't wait. This city has something special. Can the fall get here sooner please.
It's just name recognition, at this early stage. Pats at 5-1 favorites (huh?) and Giants at 8-1 are both way overvalued. As we get into offseason and more folks take a closer look at talent, I think Texans' odds will improve. 10-1 or 8-1 seems reasonable.
After the Rockets beat the lakers in Game 1 a few years ago, I had no doubt we would win the series and go on to win the championship. Then Yao got hurt.... I'm pretty confident the Texans can win the AFC next year IF HEALTHY. My problem is that I don't think we will be healthy. We never are.
The Steelers (6-1), Eagles (6-1), and Colts (25-1) all seem WAY overvalued. The Ravens at 20-1 seem way undervalued.
The last time I was this optimistic was when Steve Francis was the projected 12th man on the Rockets' roster and we had our own Big 3.
I'd probably have to go back to the end of the 1993 NBA season to find a time where I felt so strongly about my team's chances for the following year. When the Rockets lost to the Sonics that year, I was disappointed...but I also knew they were just scratching the surface of what they were about to become. I watched that Game 7 at the Summit on the big screens...and I left the Summit telling my friends that we'd be playing for the NBA title the following year. Guess what happened.
The Steelers went 12-4, despite starting crippled and infirmed people on the offensive line. If they were to go crazy and outbid for a good free agent (Chris Myers?) and draft well, they might end up favorites.
Oh wow, I didn't realize the Ravens were at 20-1. That's terrible. No idea how the Chargers can be 12-1 and Baltimore 20-1.
Houston and Pittsburgh are 5-1 to win the AFC title. Not a fan of prop bets in general, but it's a fine price indeed, considering I believe both of these teams when healthy to be better than the 3-1 Pats. Yeah, we're actually .........contenders.... has a nice ring to it, eh ?
If we had been in the game yesterday 1. we would have run the ball better than both teams and 2. we would have played better D overall and a lot better coverage than the Patriots. There is no doubt in my mind that we play either team even or better with Schaub.
If you have the means, and I don't, putting $500 on both the Steelers and Texans to win the AFC seems like a pretty good bet right now. At 5-1 you're a $2,000 winner. DD, get on this.
i thought more and more about this. Texans would have dominated on the ground against the pats. And against the Giants, manning would have been killed with that O-line vs the texans pass rush.
