The Cougars have had 3 impressive victories this season. Their one loss was by one point. This includes a big victory over LSU on their turff. I think it will be great for college basketball to have UH back in the National mix. There is so much talent here in Houston which will remove the laughing stock title off the program. My My, Penders is a real coach, not just a guy in suit (sure is good to have one of those guys again). It was just a joke whom the cougars were coming up with to coach that program. Jenkins, Drexler, Alvin Brooks, and the last joker whom doesn't even deserve us to remember his name!! NCAA here come the Cougars roaring through March Madness
i'm i the only shocked that UH isn't ranked in the new polls????? are you kidding me? they beat two top 25 teams, one on the road and they can't even get in the top 25? hell, in the coaches poll LSU still has more votes than the coogs.
As a UT fan, this is what I've heard here in the Austin area. First of all, Barnes and the AD doesn't want to match up against Penders because it will cause too much reflection on all the stuff that went down with Axtell, the Athletic Dept. and the whole "sharing of grades" scandal that led to the dismissal of Penders from Texas. Therefore, by avoiding playing Penders, they avoid having to revisit that mess. Secondly, it's made out to be a lose-lose situation if UT were to play UH. Since they are competing for many of the same players in the state recruiting-wise, it doesn't really aid Texas any to play UH. If they beat UH, they were supposed to. If they manage to lose to UH, especially against a Penders-coached UH team, then it could really hurt them. By playing Rice, UT gets to still hone in on a Houston pipeline, without having to deal with the "Penders factor." That's how I've heard it explained on local radio, so make of it what you will. I wouldn't mind UT playing the Coogs, but if they feel like it's in the best interest not too, then I'm cool with that. Say what you want, but with a non-conference schedule that includes Duke, Memphis, a tourney w/ WVU and Iowa, and Villanova, it's hard to claim that UT is a team to dodge tough opponents or play cupcakes all the time. Anyway, good luck to the Coogs the rest of the way. I miss the days when they had guys like Sam Mack and Anthony Goldwire trying to lead them to the NCAA's, but I'm a UT man now. I'll take my college hoops with a healthy portion of Tucker, Aldridge, Buckman and Gibson.
It's a shame politics and a image factor gets in the way of UT playing a Houston team. Oh well maybe they will clash in tournament play one day. No big deal they are not the only team in TX.
