I'd love to see Team ownership divorced from Historic ownership. The history, Name and colors belongs with the City/Metro Area. The cost of moving a team out of market would be loss of Name, History and Colors. And any new team in the City/Metro would merely have rights of possession for as long as they STAY. If more than one team shares a market, the history CHOICE is delegated by time in the Team's Market. The assumption would be League Association would be the more likely preference.
She won't give it back, it would be awesome if Goodell could step in and try to make it happen, maybe offer her something big, like hosting multiple Super Bowls in Nashville (even though she lives in Waller) or even giving the Titans some extra draft picks. But honestly, even that probably wouldn’t change her mind. The Oilers were such a huge part of Houston’s identity for decades, and it feels like a piece of the city’s heart is still missing without them. For fans, getting the name and logo back wouldn’t just be cool, it’d be like finally bringing home a part of our history. I love all the new jerseys but none of them can **** with those Earl Campbell joints, I want them back
Fans in Baltimore laugh at Houston constantly about this.... they have an even deeper connection to the Colts, who still use the same name/uniforms, with much more history/success... and they've moved on. The entire country is laughing at Hicksville and their "troll" attempts now... they're causing self-inflicted damage to their team's image, worth, and their fan-base who has no clue what Strunk is trying to do (both with these uniforms as well as how they're running the team poorly). Just let them continue to make asses of themselves.
Luv ya blue has zero to do with Baltimore. The Oilers uni combo is one of the best of all time. I do agree she ruins her team image when she continues to try to troll. I believe the league will step in at some point.
I have no idea what he's talking about no one in Baltimore is making fun of Houston for missing the Oilers. But he's on point with everything else!
This is a stupid point that can never be quantified, but I live near Baltimore, personally know dozens of Ravens fans, and have been to M&T for Texans games three separate times. Not a single Ravens fan I have ever met is not firmly behind Houston vis-a-vis the history/brand debate. It makes perfect sense, obviously, since they have been through this and know what it's like. Just because the Ravens came in and have been a successful franchise does not mean they do not remember what it was like when the Colts left. Sidenote: I particularly enjoyed going to the Commanders/Titans game as a Texans fan this year, as 9 out of every 10 Titans fans were wearing those Oilers throwbacks. Fans were clowning on them left and right for repping a city and team they have no connection to. Put a big smile on my face.
I think this is the way. Now that the Texans have opened the door to being associated with that color they will get more and more leeway to run with it in the future, and in newer iterations. Amy Strunk will always slow roll whatever they do, but precedent is on our side now and it's only a matter of time.
Tell me how many of those baltimorians want them to rebrand the Ravens back to the Colts (if it was an option)? Thats what I’ve had discussions with them about (generational fans that were there when the Colts left in the middle of the night). And that’s where they say that it sucks but it’s over and you need to either support the team you do have (and their brand) or do something else. The Texans are 23 years old. By comparison, the Oilers were 35 years old before they left. We are no longer talking about something recent, and yes it would help if the Texans had the prolonged success the Ravens have had to completely recalibrate the fandom. The best solution would be for Houston to still own the history, still be able to honor old oilers/Houston greats… without Strunk filing lawsuits… or just have them stop parading out Houstonians as “their own”, but you can’t stop the Titans from clutching and flexing that, no matter how stupid it seems. Ideally they’d get the hint and also try their own thing (as the Titans are, gasp, almost 30 years old... and still seem to lack any real history of their own). Lastly (since the point of the original post was to try and provide context to help put an end to this endless debate)... I will never be more emotionally invested in a sports team than I was the Oilers. They were the first team in any sport that I truly loved, they were the first team that broke my heart and I kept coming back, and ultimately they were the first (and hopefully only team) I was forced to relinquish connections to because they left my hometown. I'll never get to that level of connection with the Texans... but I'm also not going to hold that against them or continue to hope for a rebrand. They deserve respect and their own thing and they have their own generation of fans now.
