You're right. Paying homage to the birth of our city and state is gay.

I really like the name, not sure why people are down on it.

The only name I would have likes even more was the "Generals", because we could then have the statue of Sam Houston as our logo; that would've rocked.

There's also Hannover 96 and Scalke 04. We're hardly the first club to be named after a year.

So is Robertson Stadium a temporary home? Are we building another stadium?

Yeah, but you know what people in Hannover call their team? "Hannover." As do their opponents. No one refers to them as the 96ers. It's terrible.

We won't be referred to as the 1836ers either. Or the 36ers. Just Houston. My buddies and I are considering making our own shirts with either the Houston Lonestars or the Houston Oilers on 'em. Mine's gonna have B. Ching on the back.

Screw the 36ers. TERRIBLE decision. This franchise is not off to a good start.

Ok, but the name of the club is still Hannover 96 - it's a way of acknowledging the history of the club. Our name is a way of acknowledging the history of the city.

The club isn't supposed to be called the "36ers", It's "Houston 1836". Any nickname will be unofficial.

I think the name and colors are ace.

What's the problem with just being called Houston? You do know that very few soccer teams in the world actually have names like Oilers and Lonestars right? They're sticking with the traditional way to name a soccer team, not trying to bastardize it to appease people who won't come to games or buy merchandise.

Yes, they have a three year deal with Robertson and are working on building a soccer specific stadium/soccer complex. The most talked about solution now is teaming up with HISD and renovating Delmar.

Exactly, soccer teams don't have official nicknames. I don't know why people insist on calling us the 36ers.

I don't think just referring to them as Houston would work too well. You can't really say "Hey, want to go watch the Houston game?" or "I'm going to see Houston play this weekend". In countries where soccer is the biggest sport and most towns don't have other teams it works, but not here. Personally I'll call them Houston 1836, but I don't expect the masses to do the same.

Why not just call them the 36ers? That name has a nice ring to it, kind of like the "San Francisco 49ers".

Seriously guys, some of you need to get over it if you don't like it, it's not a big deal, just a name.

Be thankful that we have one of the best soccer teams in the country moving to our town without really having to do much working building or re-building it. That's my approach to this whole thing: one more entertainment venue. I will be happy if we can get an NHL team although I am not by any means a hockey fan, nor am I a WNBA fan but I go watch the team and support them whenever I can.

Just another thing to do, give it a chance, you might just like it.

LOVE the logo, I am glad they went with the "Sam Houston on horseback" theme, I am guessing our mascot will be a Red Raiders-like mascot? (except it would be a macho general on horseback)

Something along the lines of this with black in it rather than white would be totally sweet! Photoshoppers who are bored wanna create one with the logo on it?

They definitely should have gone with something that has teeth for the logo. Maybe a soccer ball with teeth. Better yet, put a big ole' toothy mouth on the state of Texas...

and what in the hell is wrong with just being called "Houston?" why do so many people what to attach some lame cartoony name to end??? this isn't saturday morning happy-fun hour on CBS, this is a sports franchise.

leave the childish mascots to the children and the olympics.
