WTF? I think Hot Sweaty B@lls would have been better. And wtf is up with them unveiling the name at a Middle School Auditorium? Would make alot more sense to do it at UH since they will play there games there.

1836 is just stupid. Are they going to have throwback jerseys with Roman numerals on them?

Probably the only place they could find. I don't think they wanted to bump the "That's a fact jack" mattress guy.

I'm pretty sure it's the year Texas won its independence from Mexico.

Houston was founded in 1836 (by brothers Augustus and John Allen)

Most likely the "nickname" of the team will be the 36er's in the same vein as 49er's and 76er's. Personally I really like the name, it could have been much worse (gattos?).

I couldn't possibly post enough of these:

Thank god I'm not a soccer fan or I'd be pissed. Jim Rome should have a field day with this tomorrow.

Oh that's great. Go ahead and piss off all the Mexicans and remind them of how Texas defeated them in battle. I though the Mexicans were supposed to be the target audience for this team in the first place!

If the Mexicans are still hungover from that, then let me be the first to say:

I like the name. Pretty cool, very original. I'm looking forward to going to these games.

That's right, because there are no Mexicans who happen to be proud Texans here in Texas. That would be so odd.

Dude, this is sooooo freaking awesome! I came up with this name for the Texans (36'ers), on their NFL2002 website back in 1999 when they were asking fans for team names. It got a lot of good feedback on this site.

I don't care that I don't get any "true" credit. In my opinion, I came up with the name!

(Now I gotta go look and see if I can find any of those old threads.)

    Never underestimate my awesomeness!

out of all the names and they choose this crap! I was afraid of this when I saw it in the poll for voting a name. Im pretty sure that was not the name people voted for. I would have preffered FC Houston then this.
