I wouldn't go that far. Wade's decline will continue. No more Miller time. And if what you mean by quality minutes is a guy in the 15-16 PER range, then Miami may not be any better. Now if Oden beasts 20+ PER for 30/minutes a game, then watch out.
Unless we trade Asik first, he would be a moron to sign here. Even then, he is a moron to go to perhaps the only team where he has no chance of starting for at least 3 years. Having said that, I'd love to have him as a bench player.
Unless we traded Asik to give him playing time. Which would be one of the dumbest, riskiest moves in Daryl Morey's career. Trading a top ten center for chronic knee injuries.
Oden in his last season playing for the Blazers averaged like 12 and 8 playing only 24 minutes a game. He's not a scrub, that being said he's had three microscopic knee surgeries in like two years. If he ever gets healthy then he'd be a beast; probably better than Asik.
Yeah, but all reports seem to suggest Oden is nearing a decision. He would probably have his mind made up long before any trade of that nature had enough time to go through. Honestly, I don't even want him. If he would be willing to sign without expectations, I'd be all for it. But this dude is trying to make a serious comeback and prove himself worthy of a rotation spot. Lord knows with D12 on board, we don't need any extra dramatics. Camby is the better fit. He may be ancient, but his RP48 rate was better than Dwight's in 11-12. He did all of that at age 37. I see no reason why he still couldn't play at age 39.
He was no scrub before the surgeries, certainly. But I wonder, even if healthy, what the impact of the surgeries will have on his potential to beast ever again? What permanent (if any) limitations will there be to his game that were not there before?
Fun fact about Oden The most games he played against a specific team were the rockets and the wolves at 3 - in those 3 games against the rockets Oden averaged 17.3 minutes a game but only was able to achieve 2.7ppg
The truth is, we don't need him to beast. We just need him to be able to spell Howard for 12-15 minutes a game.
