Cleveland kept the Browns name, stats etc. Houston didn't, we got to start over fresh with the Texans Oilers we're gone forever, name, logo, stats and all. Both franchises suck, they do have that in common
Look I understand that you are pissed off at the Texans and you have every right in the world to be but this simply not true. They didn't pass on Vince because he went to UT while Kubiak hailed from A&M. No, they passed on Vince because at that time, Kubiak honestly believed that David Carr had all of the attributes to be a bona-fide NFL QB. Coming off a 2-14 season, the entire team & organization was a truckload of horse manure. I can almost guarantee that if David Carr had played as feeble and shaky as he is doing now, Kubiak would have seriously looked at Leinart, Cutler or Young. All Kubiak could see on film was a QB getting the dog s**t stomped out of him on nearly every play so he acted on what he saw. And don't overlook the fact that the Tennessee fans originally wanted Jay Cutler while the Titans' football organization wanted Matt Leinart and not Vince Young. Pre-NFL Draft, there were legitimate questions about VY's ability to adapt to the way the QB position is played at the professional level but nobody wants to acknowledge that fact now. All the credit should go to Norm Chow for devising an offensive scheme that eased his transition into the league while allowing him room to grow on a week by week basis. Please note that such an approach was never undertaken here for David Carr and the results this season speak for themselves. Was it mistake? Yes, we all know that NOW but then hindsight is always 20-20.
didn't mean to imply that the sole reason they passed on Vince was a Longhorn vs. Aggie deal. Just pointing out that they have not made much of an effort to stock the team with Texas talent, which would increase interest since they are not doing much else to increase interest. BTW, Many knew they should have taken Vince during the draft, being a Houstonian and Longhorn just made it that much more desirable.
actually, bud adams still owns the name "oilers." also, the titans retain the historical stats for the oilers. how wonderful will it be when the titans have a "throwback" game and vince gets to sport the ol' derrick on his helmet????
this is exactly the argument many of us "fair-weather fans" have been trying to make.... in 5 years, with 2 no. 1 picks and countless other high draft picks behind them, this team has FAILED to field anything even resembling a solid NFL team.... forget the fact that this team is in all likelihood the least entertaining team to watch on any given sunday. horrendous personnel moves + horrible on-field play + incredibly boring to watch + passing on the hometown hero + no tradition = DISASTER
you are right. again i'm not disputing they've made mistakes. but this team like it or not is on the right track to getting better. i guarantee if DD played this season we'd be talking playoffs right now and not mistakes. no one wants to mention or ponder that notion...they only want to rub in people's face and give us that dam 'I told you so' speech. I cheered like mad when VY ran in that 4Q TD against USC. I like the guy. I think he's going to be great. at the time though he wasn't right for this football team. You have to build a solid foundation before you can build a house. Uncle Charley built us a house on cinder blocks.
You know it wasn't even until I guess the Rose Bowl that I even realized that Vince Young was from Houston; I don't keep up with High School football and I have no ties to UT. So him coming here would have meant as much as Bush; I have no allegiance to either but they were the popular choice. But the popular choice isn't always the right (I'd say in this case, looking at it now, the Texans couldn't have gone wrong with either Young or Mario) But who cares what fans come with what player. Winning brings in the fans and that's what the Texans were and are trying to do, as slow and frustrating as it may seem at times. And if the Texans did select Vince, how long after he arrives would the honeymoon end? Sure they might not turn on him if the franchise continued its futility but they certainly wouldn't fill the seats just for him (save for the UT contingent). Did the fans flock to see Hakeen play between their trips to the finals? I really dont' care who roots for the team or not; if you don't want to that's fine but at least respect people's opinions. I do find it sad though that the original intent of this thread - that of supporting your team - has been dumped upon by a lot of people. This is Houston's team, for better or worse. So why not just get behind them - through thick and thin. You might just enjoy yourselves a little more.
Have you not noticed. . the O-Line is only bad when references with David Carr the running backs are just bums. . it isn't the o-Line's fault Rocket River
