Wow. Good for you if you think any organization in all of sports actually gives a damn and listens to the fans when making personnel decisions. I hate to break it you, but they don't. Van Gundy made it clear Steve would stay a Rocket...until McGrady fell into the team's lap. The fans I think definitely helped persuade Clemens to unretire, but certainly didn't coax the Astros into signing him. I mean honestly, would any team need persuasion to sign a player of the Rocket's caliber? You have a big-man of Hakeem's (and Yao's) caliber, you draft the big man every time. It's simple. Management does what is best for the organization. That's why the Rockets signed Hakeem but NOT Rashard Lewis (probably a mistake). That's why the Astros signed Pettite and Clemens when they became available and expressed interest in playing here but did NOT wait on Pettite to make a decision this time. It's also why Van Gundy didn't just hand Kill Bill the starting job at the beginning of the season or give Boki 30 minutes a game or freed Bonzi (yet). Or why Kubiak stayed with Carr instead of handing the reins to Rosenfels (whose not the answer even if Carr isn't). Or why the Astros have stayed with Brad Ausmus and Everett and Biggio over the years. And that's why the Texans selected Williams to help out an already poor defense instead of fixing things on offense that weren't really broken.
Uhhh...Bush just had an incredible run. I hope the Texans pick Adrian Peterson (unless Brady Quinn somehow drops in their lap).
Hey Joshaaronb why don't you spend $15,000 for PSL's and also spend $3,000 a year for tickets and watch the crap that is on that field...It will make you do just about the same thing. Aggies have F*&^ed this team up because of their incompetence and it gonna take a Horn like Vince to fix this thing.
Which of course leads to another cheap shot at the Texans for not taking him. I'm getting sick of it. I wish I could just enjoy these guys (VY and Bush) play because they are fun to watch. But the media and others are making hard to not do anything but wish ill of them.
Cheap shot? I've been defending the Texans all week. I apologize for mentioning his name... How is it hard to avoid wishing "ill" of someone? They are people. They play a game. People make mistakes. Mistakes can be corrected. It's not that important.
I'm so tired of the, "you're just poor Houston fans" angle. It's so tired in this instance. I understand it when we're talking Astros and Rockets. With the Texans I don't understand it at all. The idea that you super-fans have built this rock-solid allegiance to a team with a 5 year history is nothing short of laughable.
ummmm...the media would be saying the same things about them if they were doing what they're doing in a Texans jersey. the media is saying what they're saying because of the play on the field.
The whole VY/RB thing pisses me off, but sitting here watching Dallas get their dick knocked in the dirt, it's a little less painful.
Max, we root for the city. The Texans are part of the city. Like it or not, they are. We are fans of Houston, eternally. Its not a hard concept to grasp.
The Texans are part of this city in name only. There is no history here. The franchise has zero identity. The sanctomonious super-fans are out in full force. If you're equating this team to the Astros or Rockets, I don't know how you get there. Perhaps it's another of my many character flaws. VY is more Houston than the Texans.
Waaaaah! Poor Texans. Houston doesn't love them. Maybe they can wipe their tears with their millions. The Texans have no one to blame but themselves. I never expected today's finish. How sweet it was for VY and VY fans.
I'm guessing you're not going to let that go, so I'll say this. When I said "I guess people are showing their real character" I meant by how they were reacting to the game. Not by who they cheered for. I could give a flying f*** who you cheer for. Just don't BOO your town's team and for god's sake don't make it your life's mission afterward to rub salt into fresh wounds and spout "I told you so" crap everywhere. THAT is poor character. Now if we can move on... I don't see how you can turn against this team so easily, just as much as you can't see why I stand behind them so readily. We will never see eye to eye on this. But know this, its fans like us, those who give support in the dark moments, who are the reason why we eventually get to enjoy the good times. If every fan were like you, Max, the Texans would be packing their bags shortly and headed the hell out of town to a place where they'd be appreciated and supported. Don't forget that when we finally win something in 2129.
I'll admit a lot of my support for Rice comes from their being in our conference now. But I will say this, Rice is a private university.. they don't represent Houston nearly as much as a Public university does.. I think the same comparison could be made to UT in Austin and St. Edward's university. UT represents Austin far more than St. Edward's does. not saying Rice has the same outward influence that st. ed's does.. because rice has far more influence within houston, but just saying that though Rice's location is in Houston, the nature of the college, being private, serves itself much more than the surrounding community.
Vince Young *is* more Houston than Texans are. What do we owe this freakin joke of a team? So we have to be happy with them because they wear the name Houston on their jersey? They had a chance to win back all of their fans with drafting an electrifying player (Bush or Young) and they went with the attitude that they always seem to go with, that "We know better than everyone else, look at Indianapolis we want to beat them." Yeah Indy signed a DE over a RB...but they have the #1 QB in the freaking league. Carr could never be mentioned in the same breath is Manning...Young has already beaten Manning. He pulled a freaking Manning THREE times. The Titans are ONE win away from matching the Texans all time high. It's that same damn attitude that makes this team so pathetic. "At least we have a team!" Tired of this crap. The Texans have given people so much heartache that they really dont deserve us as fans until they start winning. I'll follow a team that at least makes attempts to give their fans a show. The Texans dont fit that bill, and for that reason they are on the outs with the people here. We havent betrayed them...they betrayed us.
