The game I was at, the first game at the Juice box for the Braves vs. Stros series, there was all kinds of chants. When the Rockets were there, they started the JVG chant and T-mac chant. I would call that spontaneous considering it was at a baseball game.

I would say that being able to refer to a couple chants during an entire basketball regular season kind of makes my point. And as I said, the Houston fans are great for the playoffs. I'm not badmouthing Houston as a sports city, but I don't think it's incorrect to say that I've gone to regular season Astros games this year, and it's quiet for long periods of time. Things definitely are better--there's no doubt about that. The Juice Box is an intimidating place to play in the playoffs with the roof on.

    ASTROS=CHOKE CITY

(May 13-15, 1994) Two hours after blowing the biggest lead in NBA playoff history, the Rockets flew out of Choke City down 0-2 to the Phoenix Suns. Four days later, the Rockets flew into Clutch City with the series tied 2-2. In Game 1 of the 1994 Western Conference Semifinals, Houston built an 18-point lead but lost. In Game 2, they had a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter but lost in overtime. "I'll never forget getting on the charter flight after Game 2," Rockets television commentator Bill Worrell said. "It was like a morgue." The Rockets didn't rise from the dead until the second half of Game 3 when they found themselves behind 49-41 at halftime. Then Vernon Maxwell got hot, scoring 31 points in the second half as the Rockets won 118-102. Houston finished "Desert Sweep" by winning Game 4, 107-96, to even the series.

Do they have a hero like Vernon on this squad? I dont know. Vernon Maxwells, Robert Horrys, Sam Cassells...Is Phil Garner, Rudy T? Is the tough guy going to swing back when backed in the corner???

Crikey Tinman the Series aint over yet and you're looking to bury the Stros already.

I'm sure this has been brought up many times before but it never hurts to state the obvious.

MLB Playoffs going on now with the Houston Astros playing in them. NBA preseason going on now. Do people get more excited about the playoffs or the presason?

Now if this was May and the Rox are in the playoffs and Houston fans were still more crazy about the Stros than the Rox then that might be something worse discussing.

My point is that they can go the path of the Rockets when facing adversity or go the path of the Oilers.

I guess we really do find out if this is Clutch City or if the Astros pull an Oilers.

I want Tinman to say the same thing about the Rockets. He could be a perennial classic on this board

Astros in 6! T-mac bats .423 with 3 homers and 8 RBIs, Yao grabs 8 hotdogs per game

If Texans can protect their QB, it is not far to see them in playoff, but ....
    forget them.

I root for Houston teams no matter what, but I've always wondered why the Rockets seem to not get as much love from Houston sports fans or Houstonians in general. It bugs me, but I've decided not to be bitter about it.

And bandwagon Rockets fans don't bother me anymore like they used to because I know that when it comes down to it my love for the Rockets exceeds almost anyone's on this board and in Houston. The joy one feels when they win and the anger and pain when they lose is only something that that one person can understand when one is a diehard fan. Some can fake it, but they're only fooling themselves even if they think they're fooling everyone else.
I want the Astros to win and I will root for them because I know alot of people personally who will go ape**** when they do and I'll be just as happy for Houstonians in general. Oh yeah, I'll be happy for the players too. :)
If someone wanted to give me crap for being fairweather when it came to the Astros, I wouldn't deny it. I would want them to win nonetheless.

For you diehard Rocket fans my advice is not to worry. There are many diehard Rocket fans out there, maybe not just like you but something close or maybe more diehard than you think is sensible. And if it really bothers you too damn much, just remember the ROCKETS were the FIRST to bring a WORLD TITLE to Houston!! I'll be hoping, rooting and praying that the Astros can bring another one. Good Luck guys.

Looks like the Astros = Clutch City. I know you aren't exactly an Astros fan but you have to give it up for them for what they have accomplished so far. To battle from a 15-30 start to recovering from that game 5 heartbreaker and winning game 6 to reach the World Series. Pretty Clutch!

Houston has alot of new bandwagon fans, which is good for Houston sports in general. The better the Astros do, the more fans will learn what it takes to make a home field advantage. I hope this transfers over to the Toyota Center...but the damn Lexus Lounge(I know I have been guilty too) hurts the noise level.

thats my point. The Rockets were Choke City. Then they came together to battle adversity to become Clutch City. I'm not really a big Astros fan, but I jump on the wagon cause they're the 40 year old virgin. You have to root for them.

Also lets see all the events that have happened that led to this point in history this year:

    1. giant tsunami in asia
    2. massive hurricanes
    3. huge earthquakes
    4. astros go to the world series

    this means:
