I hope they build it around Sugar Land. It'd be so much easier for me to make it out to the games...much cheaper.
Katy is lame and not a place where the team sees it's main draw will come from. It will seem like less of houston's team if it's so far removed from the Urban central. Plus there is only route to Katy whereas in other areas of the city, people will take a few different highways
The stadium doesn't have to be downtown (although that is ideal), but it does have to be centrally located to draw a strong and diverse crowd. Practice fields should be separate. Having seen PHP first hand this weekend during the Cup, I think it is a terrible idea to locate a huge complex far away in a suburb with only one way in and out. Same will be true if Houston does it that way, IMO, As for Robertson, the concessions do suck and the locker rooms/facilities for the team are ridiculously bad (even more so during UH football season), but its a great stadium for soccer fans during the game. I had season tickets and never really had a big issue with Robertson. One just needs to learn how to deal with the quirks of the place to have a good time.
^ Looks amazingly similar to the one in Kansas City. I did like that design the best out of the ones that are upcoming. Tidwell & Parker though? I'd hope to find a better location than that. While it is convienent to downtown, it's a crappy area.
revitalization.... i don't really like that design though, with the cover over 1 side and not the other. pizza hut park is nice... ive been before, but not on sunday
I think he's talking about future Olympic bids. That could help but I still dont think the olympics will ever come here
Let's say the 2016 games went to one of the us cities. That's 20 years after Atlanta. There was 16 years years between Atlanta and the 80 LA games. So 16 to 20 years in between US hosting. So A future Houston olympic bid could be for the 2032 or 36 games??? I'm not sure this stadium will come into play that far ahead.
No, that was just a rendering that somebody dug up of what a KC stadium may look like. One thing that's strange about it is the MLS logo is from the first season, so there's no telling what the story behind that picture is. On a slightly related not, there was a stadium in South Korea with a similar design, I think it got messed up in a typhoon though. Jeju Stadium
1st sentence: You mean "its main draw", not "it's main draw." Katy is not lame. Yomamma is lame 2nd sentence: DALLAS FC... plays in FRISCO, LA GALAXY and LA's CHIVAS USA play in Carson . Want more? 3rd sentence: ONE ROUTE? You're thinking Galveston. Ever heard of Highway 99, Barker Cypress Rd., 290, Fry Road, Clay Road, Mason Road? HELLO?
Yea Jackass I lived in Katy. First, most of Those are ROADS not HIGHWAYS. Any place in the world has worlds. What does that prove? Second, Mason, Fry and Barker go North and South and since Katy is WEST of houston they do little for the thousands of people coming into the area. THird, Highway 99 or the Grand Parkway is only finished going south of I 10 (So it doesn't hit 290) and only serves Fort Bend County and the Cinco Area. How do you not get it? The only place for people to come from is EAST!!! Any other place in the city and they can come from any direction. Fifth, The Houston market relies more on the Hispanic demographic than any of the ones you listed so they would be less inclined to put the stadium so far out of the city. From the sound of it, your one of the many katy kids that spends every weekend outside the houston city limits. Trust the world, Katy is lame.
I doubt the US gets the Olympics anytime soon with all the anti US sentiment around the world atm. Perhaps 2020? 14 years is not so long for a stadium. Even the POS King Dome lasted 24 years.
I don't leave loop 610 unless it's to fish, hunt, go to the beach or drive to see the Rockets, Texans or Astros play an away game. I aint making an exeption for the Dynamo. Well I am just messing around a little but to leave the city center would be a very big mistake IMHO.
