It's actually the #2 reason to have a Government at all, after security, and the US is failing miserably at it. Spend money fixing all of our rotting **** first, please.

Will the train station be built outside my front door?

How will you get around Dallas/Houston once you have arrived? Are we assuming that parking lots for passengers and parking lots for rental cars will also be built?

Historically speaking railroads have been landgrab bonanzas. I think this private partnership would have more success building commuter rail similar to what is in Boston.

It will certainly be closer than IAH (hopefully): cut off, say, 20 min drive time for most.

Parking will be easier since it won't be a massive complex ...just one rail station. : save 10 min parking.

Walking to your gate will be minimal for same reason as above: save 10 min.

Security lines will be minimal: save 10 min.

No taxi to the runway. : save 10 min.

Travel time: add 30 min (since the flight to Dallas is like 45 min.

Walking back out of airport and getting to car: save 15 min

Driving to downtown Dallas: save 45 min. (assuming that's where you are going)

All that if there are no weather delays ...which are much less likely on a train.

That's about 1.5 hr savings in my book ...not to mention much more pleasant than going thru airport security and packing into a plane.

Once you arrive in Dallas you still need transportation ...so that doesn't change but if it drops you off downtown, you can catch the Dallas light rail to many places. Others taxi or rent ...just as you would at the airport so that is a wash.

I have been on a high speed rail train and these suckers are the real deal. They need to build one between LA and Vegas or LA and SF.

Why is this topic of particular interest to you OP?

Ground travel instead of by airplane, gotta be a Royce White joke in here somehow?

Like I mentioned before, if California is an indicator of rail planning, do NOT hold your breath on it breaking ground ANY time soon if at all. Its SUPER expensive and all KINDS of red tape and legalties in the way. ($68 BILLION rail from LA to San Fran)

California IS poorly run though, Texas is better managed. And probably less hurdles in the way in Texas. Same project in Texas would probably be (just straight conjecture) 15-25% less costly because California route terrains are more mountainous, so easier engineering in Texas. And the land purchases maybe wouldnt be as pricey, perhaps less litigation costs.

It'd surely be nice to have in a dream world. Here's a interstate theoritical diagram by the US Rail Association.

Actually, the lone high speed rail line here in the US operates at a profit. It's the capital costs that are high.

Rest of the world disagrees with you.

I foresee some people taking offense to the name Bullet Train, hence they will change it to Wizard Train.

Most government services don't charge fees or generate revenue, so they're all "sinkholes."

2 hours in the security line for a 2 hour train trip when you can drive in 4 hours.

    Makes sense.

Think about how easy it would be to go to Rockets games in SA or Dal if the trip was only 90 minutes.

I was being a little sarcastic. My point was I doubt at the end of the day the time savings would be as great as people think especially once the TSA gets involved.

it avoids putting miles on your car...it gives you time to get work done...

if i had to regularly travel between dallas and houston (i do some, but not every month), i'd consider this a great option.
