Bygone culture: https://www.chron.com/food/article/tokyo-gardens-heb-sushi-sushiya-19494870.php All I remember of going there as a kid was the wooden bridge over the koi pond at the entrance.
I totally remember that place. It was at 610 and Westeimer, I believe. I remember the pond and also that you sat on pillows on the floor instead of chairs and they only gave you chopsticks.
I know some of yall went to this place around Washington, iirc...it was awesome for hangover breakfast https://www.chron.com/food/article/pig-stand-texas-houston-100-19514666.php
Watched an episode of the Simpsons that featured Duff Gardens (a spoof of Busch Gardens) and it reminded me that for a very brief time in the '70's Houston had a Busch Gardens amusement park. We went once and all I remember was the overpowering odor of birdsh!t. It shut down after a couple of years due to low attendance.
I grew up in Sunnyside back when MLK was still South Park... Telephone Road (good times & trouble) Weatherby Arms Museum (near the Dome) Texas Tapes & Records (worked in the head shop for a spell) King Center Drive-In (Prince's next door) Jamail's Grocery on Kirby Almeda Mall (mentioned but the store behind it was cool)
