Remind me what's Rice's lifetime record vs. UH? Football: 27-11 Basketball: 57-15 That's whatcha call KERPWN3D, chumpzilla.
I'd say Piland's record against Rice is more relevant for this upcoming season than Rice's lifetime record against UH. But I think I might become a UT troll this year, we'll see.
If you want to hang your hat on eeking out a 3 point win over a true freshman QB making his 2nd start on a team that went 5-7, be my guest, but don't shocked if people laugh at you. If you want to go really relevant, how about we talk about how a majority of the team that absolutely plastered Rice 73-34 (in a game that wasn't even that close) is going to be squaring off against them this year? I don't blame you if you'd rather not go there, though. I wouldn't want to either.
Looks like the Coogs jumped off the Titanic just in time. http://www.chron.com/sports/college...n-West-Conference-merging-to-form-3312307.php The good news is UH won't have to pay exit fees to a league that is no longer active!
Majority? QB gone. All the receivers gone. Two of the RB's gone. The "TE" (Justin Johnson) gone. The two best LB's gone. Safeties gone. While I agree that the majority as far as number of people will be back, the quality will be a lot less. Either way, UH will still beat Rice next year. You and I can agree on that
Two best LBs? Steward and Matthews are both back, Matthews being an honorable mention All-American, far and away our most outstanding defensive player. Losing McGraw sucks, but Steward would just as good, if not better last year. And as far as safeties, Saenz was absolute garbage... we're getting back our best secondary players for sure. Most of the OL is back, and Sims is a beast. Other than the QB/WRs (whom we have no dearth of talent at), it's looking pretty salty.
Sammy Brown? He was the best of the group. McGraw is the leading tackler in school history, you can't argue that he is a beast. Mathews is a stud no doubt. Steward is best at covering the inside receivers, so it is good to have him back switching to 43. I agree that Sims is/was the best RB of the bunch and the OL is going to be a huge help. I also agree with the talent we have. But we have all seen that potential doesn't always pan out. Finally UH got a few big receivers.
Keenum was that entire team Without him, we saw what happened -- Rice whipped you even without their starting QB in 2010 Good luck Coogs, you'll need it!
You can make a case that Sammy and Marcus were the two best LBs, but I'm not exactly worried with Mathews and Steward coming back, plus almost the entire secondary and DL. I'm sure out of the 8-9 WRs we have, somebody will stand out. And Piland will be coming in as a Junior having 8 starts to his credit (and having played particularly well as a true frosh). This defense and running game are going to be pretty nasty, as long as Piland can play even half-way decent, the West title should be a no-brainer.
Any Rice victory is considered a whipping. For example, "Rice football whipped up on Katy High School's powder puff team 10-7".
You guys made the stellar hire of promoting your special teams coach to HC. But I'm sure his capabilities are just as good as Sumlin's were! BWAAAAHAHAHA And Sumlin was 2-2 vs. the OWLS! *snort*
I agree with bigtexxx. Losing to Rice twice is completely embarrassing. That's why league organziers canceled the KYF Pony Bowl once way back in 1998.
How many touchdowns do you think Deontay Greenberry will hang on you this year. Im placing the over/under at 2.5 oh and Todd Graham told me to tell you hi.
http://blog.chron.com/cougars/2012/02/uh-to-take-a-closer-look-at-new-stadium-site/ I really hope they can find the cash to put it next to I-45. That would be a better place for future considerations.
I'm not really a fan of that location, but if that could bring in more advertising money I'd be OK with it.
