He sounded like the IT guy when he's frustrated with you asking about something he doesn't want to be asked about anymore because he feels it's irrelevant. But you kinda know it is.
This year could prove this adage wrong with Western Michigan ranked as high as they are. Don't think the AAC champs are going to a NY6 unless by some miracle UH ends up making the CCG.
What the University of Houston would or would not pay all comes down to a small group of alumni that are worth between 400 million and 1 billion dollars. In particular, Tilman Fertitta. He already has a contract sitting for Herman to sign, increasing his annual pay. So, hypothetically if Herman left (which I believe is possible but far from a certainty) those select group of boosters would make the decision as to how much money the next head coach will get. If there was a candidate that really stuck out. Whoever is the head coach next season is going to have a legitimate chance to run the table. The team next year is likely to be more talented and the schedule is easier. Also, getting into the Championship round is hard outside of the P5, but had UH simply beaten Navy and SMU, they would be in the Championship round.
This is actually a pretty big deal. For him to admit his agent is working on a extension is a great thing. He couldve simply said he was in town for reason not related to Herman. Sounds like UH still has a chance
Yes, and for good reason. He rebuilt that Louisville program and has shown the ability to recruit well. He didn't suddenly forget how to coach. It didn't work at UT, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't succeed at a school with a different culture.
The University of Houston always had a chance. Herman has put in a lot of work building local ties with politicans and influential people and local coaches. He has been able to build the roster and has a level of control at UH that he wouldn't have at other schools. Also, don't underestimate that he has a more talented team taking the field in 2017 and has a real chance of running the table with the schedule next year. Last, Herman can walk away whenever he wants. He can leave in 2018, 2019; etc. As long as the program is winning (and they should) he will have job offers.
Yeah but there's no guarantee that tier 1 programs like Texas and LSU will have openings. I wonder what Vegas has to say about this. They usually know best.
UT brass probably is offerring him the world right now. Herman comes to UofH asking for more. He would be stupid to not take the UT job.
Actually the program is a mess, but they do have better facilities and more money. Saying the city is better is a joke IMO having lived there, but I do know that some believe that for whatever reason. Anyway, the point is that he'd be under all kinds of pressure and losses like UH had to SMU could cost him his job in a few years.....so yeah, if he wants to deal with that nonsense, sure, but at UH he's already in a better situation. Why not let someone else rebuild UT and deal with that nonsense?
Do you mean Conference Championship or CFP? If the latter, it just wasn't about beating Navy and SMU, it was about only losing once in 2 seasons, winning 2 conference championships, and getting to play 3 Top 10 teams. You guys almost had it and it was a nice run regardless, but man that is a tough path that I'm not sure how often that can get replicated. Even looking forward to next year, UH's best shot is if the AAC has a ton of ranked opponents because it does not look like any of their non-conference teams will be ranked.
Charlie Strong-5 million Tom Herman-3 million I can only assume he will command 6-7 to take over the program. UT is 10x the program that UofH is. There is no debating that unless you want to be stubborn on this issue.
I think UT is fine shape. There is talent there. Herman can win 10 games right off the bat if he brings Orlando with him or finds a legitimate DC. As far as the better city debate - nothing seems to matter less in college sports. Terrible places like College Station, Norman and Tuscaloosa recruit.
