I would expect Allen to meet with a number of coaches. I would find UH to be an unlikely destination for Allen, since Herman could be gone before Allen is eligible to play.
Picked up two more 2017 recruits last night. Carlos Grace Rb Crosby Marquez Bimage LB Brenham. Brings the total to 5. 1 4* 3 3* and 1 unranked #HTTO
Houston Chronicle File this under you-don’t-hear-this-everyday: University of Houston coach Tom Herman will meet hip hop artist Paul Wall on Tuesday to have his teeth fitted for a diamond grill. Herman is fulfilling a promise he made to his team to get the grill if the Cougars won the American Athletic Conference football title. The Cougars went 12-1 and play Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Dec. 31 in Atlanta.

As long as UH does their part, he'll be here. Why would he leave? If he turns UH into something big, he'll be a legend, and i think that's actually a realistic scenario. The hard part was getting the stadium done.

He's done a great job. And UH did a great job hiring him. But if you guys don't think Herman will leave UH for one of the really big jobs, then you just aren't seeing things clearly. You think he would turn down the University of Texas job? Or one of the top jobs in the SEC, or Big 10? You guys love UH because you went to school there. You have a special relationship with the school because of all the memories you have from your school days. But, it's not that way for Herman, or any other coach. It's a job. Coaching is a career, and Herman is working his way up. Just like in any other profession. Do you think Herman is somehow different from other coaches, and he's not going to want to move up the career ladder? UH has made huge improvements in its facilities, and its football program is on the rise. But, it's still not close to being on the same level as the top programs in the country. If Herman keeps winning at UH, he will get offers from the big time programs, and he will leave. That's not me slamming UH. I would say the same thing about the coaches at 90% of the schools in the country. With a little more success at UH, Herman is going to be the guy that all the top schools want. It looks like Herman really is that good.
Would Herman leave for a top 10 job? Probably, but those jobs don't aren't available very often and Herman wouldn't be the only candidate. Also Herman has spoken at length about his desire to have complete program control and not to have to answer to boosters. He currently can do almost anything he wants and not have to answer to anyone, that wouldn't be the case somewhere else. Joining a major P5 conference will also make it less likely he leaves unless he gets the Godfather offer from UT, Bama, Ohio St. or a few other schools. So while it is quite possible he leaves, it isn't a certainty under the circumstances. If they get a P5 invite (they should), you very well may see a situation like OkSt. and Gundy or Briles at Baylor where they don't job hop.
Here's what Herman had to say about it on http://gottlieb.radio.cbssports.com/audio/the-doug-gottlieb-show/ starting around 4:50 DG: How close were you to leaving UH? CTH: Not close. DG: How does that process work? CTH: HY was very proactive in trying to get approval for a new deal for myself. .... You right, there were multiple inquiries, not to be too specific. But you know, I like winning Doug. .... and the way the system is set up currently, if you win the AAC your going to a NY6 bowl game. DG: Are you willing to accept that even if you were undefeated you probably wouldn't be in the CFP? .... is that okay with you going forward? CTH: That;s okay, because I don't think there are many places, at least not the ones calling me, that you can say, "Hey, if we go win em' all, or win all but 1 or 2, then we are going to the playoff". .... So rather than toil through 7-5 and 8-4 seasons .... where a certain school has a ceiling, this place has no ceiling. .... Where I think most every school except for 8-10 in the country, the ceiling is not that. ------------------------------------------- I think he's being honest. There's basically 8-10 places he might rather be than UH. UT is probably one of those places. But it does mean that Herman values his job at UH more than the vast majority of positions out there.
