Same here, thank god the Aggies foolishly joined the SEC. That easy win is what saved Les' job and I was really worried that they'd steal Herman if they fired Les.
Foolishly joined the SEC? I have been told by several high level boosters that Herman has told them privately that he will be back next season and plans to be committed beyond that but will make any promises if a select few jobs are offered under the right circumstances.
There's really only two teams I don't want to play in a bowl game, due to lack of recognition, and that would be Iowa and Baylor. So I'm rooting for them to get into the 4 or stay out of our bowl game. Everyone else in the top 15 are pretty good eye candy for the program. And playing on either playoff day or New Years day is good visibility. Things are looking good for a solid matchup. And I think that teams forced to play a non 5 program will likely be happy to play Houston instead of say Toledo or Temple. A win puts us on the map for next season. I would love to play: 1. Notre Dame 2. Alabama 3. Florida St. 4. Ohio St. 5.
Yeah, I think it was foolish on their part. If A&M stuck in the Big 12 then they probably go to at least one National championship after running the table on the Big 12 during the Manziel years. Since they joined the SEC they have nothing to show for those years and now that the boom years are over, they are set for many bust years near the bottom of the toughest division in college football. Even if they got good again, they'd still have to make it through Bama, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. I just don't see it happening.
What? Joining the SEC was the best thing the Aggies have ever done. They get out of UT's shadow, and they are the one and only Texas school in the best football conference in the country. They are in a great position going forward. As for Herman. I hope this means he will be at UH a little while longer. He has to be one of the top candidates for all the best open coaching jobs. What he's accomplished in Houston added to what he did at Ohio State, makes him a hot commodity.
I'd personally love UH to play against a decent Big XII team and beat them just to prove they are worthy of being in the conference. Personally, I want UH to join a different, better P5 conference if the opportunity arises because of the disrespect shown towards UH and the Big XII conference being on a decline. I understand why UH hasn't been invited because they haven't won when it mattered since the CUSA championship in 06, but that shouldn't stop them from being scheduled OOC with competitive Big XII teams since beating OK State and TX Tech in 09. Although the opener is against Oklahoma next season, it seems like they are scared of not getting an easy win vs. UH and aren't giving them respect.
Very nice. You have to believe Navy pulled in most of those national numbers; UH-Temple should be more telling
They get out of UT's shadow and under the shadow of LSU, Bama, Arkansas, Auburn..... They shot any hopes of them ever being in the national championship with that move.
The Pac 12 is the other option for UH. I think the Big 12 would instantly offer UH membership if the Pac 12 came calling.
This. Would hope that UH would tell the BIG12 to eff off if that were to happen. Would give the P12 a foothold in Texas and allow recruiting during their visits here. Local radio station put up a "One and Done" headline regarding Herman but since took it down. Wonder if there's smoke.
You mean just like all the other Big 12 teams that have been in the running for the championship over the past 5 years? Joining the SEC helped A&M's recruiting and national visibility immeasurably. The excitement over the move got them the money from the boosters to overhaul the facilities into arguably the best in the country. Do they have a tougher road to travel now on a week to week basis? Undoubtedly. But it's part of the trade off of playing with the big boys instead of being having to put up with UT getting everything they want to the detriment of everyone else in the league.

When is the last time a Big 12 team ran the table and wasn't in the national championship? Had A&M stayed in the Big 12, they probably run the table one of the Manziel seasons and end up in the national championship, instead they'll be a perennial also ran in a super difficult division in a super difficult conference. At best they'll be Arkansas, at worst they'll be Vandy.
This is a UH thread, so I won't get into this anymore after this. But, to say A&M has no hopes to ever winning a championship is stupid. I remember when Clemson, Baylor, and TCU were some of the worst teams in the country. All teams have ups and downs, and I think the Aggies are recruiting well and will continue to improve. A&M may end up being the premier school in the SEC both on and off the field. A&M is in a great position to build a consistent winning team. Just as UH is trying to move into a better football conference, so did the Aggies. If you strive to be the best, then you should want to play in the best conference. The Big 12 is still a good conference, but few schools would choose to be in the Big 12 if they have the option to go to the SEC, or the Big 10. The Aggies made the right decision, and have picked up a lot of fans because of it. I was never an A&M fan before they moved to the SEC. But now the state of Texas has a school in the SEC, so now I watch the Aggies play every week. I've always liked watching SEC football, but now I feel like I have a dog in the fight, so it's even better. I'm sure I will become a much bigger fan of UH if they get into the Big 12, because as a native Houstonian, I feel like they will be representing me and my city in a major conference. Teams should always want to be in the best conference they can get into.
