I went to his website and maybe you're right. There was a poll that listed orlando as one of the three teams that may land Arroyo. Stranger things have happened.
What the rockets need is someone to pass the ball to McGrady and Yao and from time to time hit the open shot go after CARLOS ARROYO and focus on getting a back up center...
I like it just like SJC said - I said it too in the fill out the roster thread. Arroyo - passing, shooting, d Barry - shooting, passing Tmac - 5 tools Howard - solid journeyman help Yao - star tools team guy. We kill with our shooting, inside and out. bench - JJ - nice d, nice o Taylor - all o Skinner/Bateer/Rebraca, whatever (back up center) - body deep bench Boki Spoon Pike AG Gaines Lue Wilks if we cut Wilks or dump someone else we can replace them. I'd prefer to dump Pike and AG and Lue and/or Wilks for a Scott Padgett, a Tmo, a Collie, a Mc Dyess. We should trade the excess guys for picks or whatever. Not a lot of room there in the roster.
i hope we end up getting him or barry, not both. tmac should remain a SG, just for a better mismatch in our favor.
If leaving T-Mac at SG is a perceived mismatch, won't other teams just swith the so called "SF" to guard T-Mac, and the so-called "SG" to guard Jim Jackson. Come on people. Let's be smart here. Doesn't matter what you label T-Mac as. He's gonna be guard by so called 1's, 2's, 3's, and 4's. It also works the other way as he'll guard all sorts of positions. Position titles mean very little.
Arroyo played well in a system. I don't want any Jazz players. Jerry Sloan has a great system to let them play well. Once they left Jazz, they suck.
Bingo...we have a winner! Exactly right. TMAC will be guarded by whichever defender the opposition feels can do the best job against him, regardless of position. If TMAC is a guard, he'll still get guarded by Artest, Bowen and the like.
Arroyo has never been a favorite in Jerry Solan's system. Last year, he shut downed Iverson in one game while Stockton was abused by Iverson's quickness. Jerry Solan benched him in the second game because he think Carols is too cocky. He is not a castaway by Jazz, instead, Jazz want to offer him at 4 mil a year. I wish we could have Donyell Marshall as well.
Absolutely correct and just as true on the other side of the ball. If it's Kobe (SG) and Fox (SF), you've TMac on Kobe. If it's Wally Z (SG) and Spree (SF), you've got JJ on Wally Z. If it's the Kings, I'd expect TMac on Peja (SF) and Jim Jackson on Christie (SG). IMHO, it's going to be about exploiting matchups and not clarifying position titles.
Arroyo seems like a great fit. Problem as stated is he is restricted and the Jazz have bundles of money. The most plausible way to work this is to call the Jazz, maybe if they really don't want to pay him 18-20 mil over like 4 years but want something out of it we can work a sign and trade with the TE and a #1. But otherwise we just can't screw around and have our MLE tied while the Jazz stall and then probably match. Makes more sense to target guys not quite as good as fit (Alston/D. Jones) but who would be cheaper and under our control to sign or not to, or go for Barry or Fish where we also have control. Tying close to all our MLE money on him while we wait for the Jazz decision not only would keep our PG position in flux, but would keeps us out of the market to shore up the back-up C spot.
no Rox mention: http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,595074811,00.html Arroyo is drawing outside attention By Tim Buckley Deseret Morning News The early leader in the rumor mill among the Jazz's four restricted free agents is starting point guard Carlos Arroyo, who seems to have drawn attention from numerous teams since the NBA's summer free-agency market opened Thursday. The Spanish-language El Nuevo Dia reported Friday that "Miami, Atlanta and Minnesota all expressed interest" in Arroyo, who will play the point for Puerto Rico's entry in next month's Summer Olympics at Athens, Greece. And with longtime Dallas point guard Steve Nash having agreed to sign a multi-year with Phoenix, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reported Friday that the Mavericks' list of potential targets now "will likely include" Arroyo along with ex-Jazz guard Troy Hudson of Minnesota, Derek Fisher of the Los Angeles Lakers and Keyon Dooling of the Los Angeles Clippers. One other reportedly possible destination for Arroyo: Orlando. If Arroyo were to sign an offer sheet from another team — July 14 is the earliest he can do so — the Jazz would have 15 days to decide whether or not it would match the offer. That is also the case with Utah's other three restricted free agents, guards Gordan Giricek and Mo Williams and big man Jarron Collins.
He's a 32% 3-point shooter and highly unproven. Arroyo has played one full season as a starter and had moderate success. I say a 3 year deal worth $11.5 mil is reasonable. Anything more is too big a risk at this point.
#1 I don't thimk you can trust the public statements from agents this time of year. Their job is to pump up their clients and it wouldn't surprise me if they had their minions working the message boards as well as feeding the local fish wraps. #2 We atleast have some options ar the PG now, but we have nothing behind Yao. As we stand, if he were to get hurt, our whole season next year would look like Orlando last year. So before we go tying up the MLE for two weeks bidding on a player we may get outbid on we had better address the C. I guess the PG deal could come first but it just can't be a bidding war we have to wait on. We would need to have a handshake deal with an agent we trust. That being said, I like the sound of young and atheletic over old and savy (oh wait we had one of those and I didn't like him) Especially if you have to give them 3+ years. This team is looking at a five year window for a championship. Next year will be a love fest if we just make the playoffs. We don't need to get stuck with another bad contract on a older player trying to 'win now'.
