Paul Pierce for Jason Williams? You guys are smoking something good.

any idea on what else Memphis would be giving up?

His loss. I never wanted him anyway.

Hopefully the Payton/Sprewell talk is just a smokescreen and we'll switch our focus to a player like Gerald Wallace or Desmond Mason, which would bring us a step closer to the young core we are pursuing.

We can worry about the 1 later.

And besides, as I've said before, the signing of stoudamire opens up the possibilities of a snt with Memphis for Swift and J.williams.

    We'll see...

I reckon I struggled with why HOU was so attracted to Mouse anyway? Seems to me the team needs a fast PG who can defend the Jason Terrys of the league. One that passes the ball and can hit the occasional shot. Does that describe Stoudamire at all? Instead, an aging score-first PG. WIth the potential for bringing baggage into a team that has a pretty good chemistry.

I would rather play the group we got (Sura/Wesley/James/Head) or find a quick PG later.

Same questions about the interest in Spree, Finley, and GP. I can sorta see Finley just because I liked his game. But I would rather get a younger more athletic swing than a one season and done player. And/Or keep Barry.

Cassell is interesting. especially since he is in the last year of his contract. But you have to wonder about the chemistry situation if you bring in Cassell. When he is positive he really is positive, but when he is sulking that can really bring the team down.

NVE? At this stage of his career, what does he do that Mike James doesnt do right now? NVE wouldnt be a bad addition, but again, what do we do with all of our guards?

Boston isnt going to trade Pierce for anything off of the Grizz roster except Gasol. I dont think you would make that move.

My guess is Jason Williams for Mark Blount+filler. Garbage in, Garbage out.

We need a PG. I would have loved to have gotten Stoudamire but if he's going to pass up a chance at a championship for an extra million dollars when he is already a multi-millionaire, then let him go into retirement ringless.

Memphis isn't getting Paul Pierce, especially for Jason Williams.

Wesley can't handle the ball. He's our worst ballhandler. If he was a good ballhandler I would keep him until his legs fell off, because he's a great hustle guy and defender witha nice 3point shot

I don't know what record Memphis will have this year, but please don't make any more ridiculous remarks (like last year's) that Memphis will have a better record as long as Tracy and Yao are on this team

Memphis may be able to get PP for draft picks, Mike Miller, and perhaps one bad contract. But they will have to include Miller and they will have to include draft picks. Still, I think there would be better offers out there for PP. And I don't think Boston would really want Pao with the young, frontcourt players that they have.

I can't hate on the mouse for taking more money, but what I find funny is that "Memphis" came out of nowhere.

Most speculation I had read about DS was that he was either going to Houston, Miami, or Cleveland.

All I can see from this signing is that it was never about playing for a team that had a shot at going deep into the playoffs like Houston or definitely Miami. Or even playing on a revamped Cleveland team that will definitely make some noise in the Eastern Conference Playoffs this upcoming season.

Instead he goes to a Memphis  team that (though they are a solid team), they will probably barely make/miss the playoffs and show just how much their team was better with off Hubie as opposed to Fratello.

    To Damon,

I hope you enjoy your money, cause you won't get your ring in Memphis  .

I don't think he opted out. His contract expired and he got paid 13mill last year. If he had a player option for another year, there's no way he would have opted out.

Side Note: Your sig says that you want Dunleavy to back up T-Mac. I would much rather Bowen play 6min/game than Dunleavy.

If we are desperate for a PG (which I don't think we are to begin with, since even with Sura and MJ we have a solid lineup, with Wesley and hopefully Barry manning up at the SG; I like this lineup more than with other problematic players), then I think we should just go after NVE with the LLE, and he will definitely take it to play in Houston.

There is NOTHING Stoudamire is better at than NVE, and NVE is even more of a clutch player during the playoffs that can provide serious offensive firepower, speed, and outside shooting you need.

Go after NVE, CD and JVG. Otherwise, just resign Barry for one more season and bring back our tough, smart, gritty backcourt from last season.

I have a tendacy to agree here. Van Exel lives here and if he would sign for the LLE, I think it would be a good fit in lieu of DS being gone. He was interviewed on 610 a month or so ago before the speculation about Stoudamire started and he expressed a strong desire to play here. In regards to what is available at the PG position at this point, I don't see anything more reasonable than signing him for the LLE over the next couple years. Watson is going to want more money than that and requires a S&T with Memphis, not likely. Any way we go, we are looking at an old PG. Him, possibly Payton, or possibly Cassell in a trade. The thing is, we've got our defensive PG on the bench in Head. We should be able to live with a PG that is not necessarily a good defender but can rip the nets and get the ball to our guns. If another team's PG starts ripping us, I think that's when we bring in Head.

I see the need for upgrade at the SG position more than the PG. Sura and James got things done last year in their individual ways. Barry is unsigned and Wesley is a year older. It sure was a love fest 1 year ago for Sura and just months ago for James. It's like the boards going through it's menstryl cycle.

I think dharocks was refering to the turnovers JJ produced each and every night compared to Wesley. 2.3 vs 1.1. In that sense he was a much better ball handler. That is about 1 extra point a game.

I completely agree. I've worried more about the SG spot more than the PG spot. Bring in DerMarr Johnson for the LLE.

Totally agree with you. A healthy NVE makes Houston a dangerous team come playoff time. He is still capable of throwing a team on his back for at least 1 game during a playoff series. Van Exel is utterly ruthless during a game when the cards are on the table. The rockets did what they had to do to get their power forward of the future in Swift with out giving up anything, they plugged a huge hole. For me it's been a slam dunk offseason. Sign NVE and try to aquire a younger taller defensive athletic 2 guard, then this team can contend with anybody.
