JVG has to work out things so he can get the best of of everyone. It's up to the players to respond. We are not likely to get high quality players in any trade. Howard and Mo need to get consistent points every night ,defend and stay out of foul trouble.
JJ can't take the pressure of Yao and T-Mac but a combined effort from Howard and Mo can make things easier for us.
I wish we had picked up a better PG than Ward.

Without wanting to start a trade thread, I wonder whether the Nets would trade Alonzo Mourning for either Jawon Howard or Mo Taylor. They would probably prefer Taylor since he is younger and his contract is shorter.

Their rationale for doing so would be to shed a pricey, disgruntled player who may not be able to continue playing. Our risk would be in getting a player who might have to retire at any given moment. However, if we win the gamble, we would get the rebounding we so desperately need without sacrificing scoring ability.

The problem with the Rockets is the DEFENSE. It ain't the OFFENSE, the offense is smoother in terms of execution than last year. The DEFENSE this year is mediocre at best. I remember last year...IT WAS the DEFENSE that allow the Rockets to be in the game and it is especially true because the offense suck last year. Last year's defense give you no easy look at all and if they do shoot it, there is always challenge or being contested. And they have no chance of driving to the hoop cuz Yao is there. But this year...the defense is average, they allow wide open shots...and now penetration and easy layups even with Yao inside. I think JVG probably change the way they play defense since Cato is not here anymore...but the defense suck this year. I said this because if the defense is as good as last year...this Rockets team WILL BE a championship contender because this year's offense is pretty darn good to me.

Speaking of this year's defense...i think Ward and Lue is just too small to guard and be effective against penetration. They're constantly getting beat. Now that i think about it...the Rockets should have signed someone like Fisher and some other better than average shooters since those players' defense are kind of suck as well. So i mean ..would you rather have players who at least shoot better and play little defense or someone who shoot average and play little defense???

When will JVG take Mo out of the starting lineup and replace him with Juwan.

Let's be honest. JVG doesn't have a lot of options. The two he does have are to replace Ward and Mo with Howard and Lue in the starting lineup, something I would have done weeks ago.

I wouldn't get to hot and heavy for Cassell anyways. His 3point shot has left him, his numbers are way down this year across the board and Hudson has been getting more minutes than him lately. He'd be a throw away to get Kidd and we'd end up with an over the hill Sam and a nobody in Madsen.

i agree that sam is showing his age this year. however, i would still make that trade. sam is FAR better that anything we have at point. and we aren't giving up anything we need (howard, lue).

the second trade about mo and picks for brand will NEVER happen. but i am keeping my fingers crossed for sam. it is a very realistic possibility.

sure, sam is not a long term fix, but we can contend NEXT YEAR with a move like this, and the summer to find a rebounder.

yao and tmac have 10 years to play together. we can try winning with old guys now, and when they all retire we have time to rebuild. much like the spurs when they had robinson, johnson, ellie, ferry, etc...

I was surprised by the article. Granted, it is good to know that JVG and the Rox don't tolerate the mediocrity.

But I dont think there is too much they can do at this point, at least not in a hurry. You definitely can't pull out some good trades in a hurry. In business, if you want to buy/sell sth quick, others will take advantage of you.

But let's wait and see. We definitely need some better role players.

Elton Brand for Mo. Uh-huh. Sure, sign me up.

Back on plant earth, I'd be happy to exchange Mo for Alonzo Mourning and Aaron Williams and picks. Whatever. Zo would be nice in limited minutes. Padge and Spoon can platoon the rest until we can find a real trade for a real starter.

In my other trade thread, I'd love to do Howard and Boki for Matt Harpring and Raul Lopez. They can also have Lue or whatever. JJ too, if they want. I'd actually like to unload JJ. He can go in any of these deals.

In the offseason, or with the Trade Exception (5.5?) and JJ, we chase Antonio Daniels, with the wink wink promise of a big payday later.

    Yao/Mutumbo
    Zo/Padge/Spoon
    Harpring/Tmac/Bowen/Sura
    Tmac/Sura/Bowen
    Daniels/Lopez/Ward

That's a decent team with different weapons, that would get us along pretty well until we can find talent in the draft or lure a FA with the MCE.

I think we can get Mourning, but we'd have to offer the TE. Nets want to cut salary; while I believe that Mo does have value, there's no way the Nets touch his contract.

How much does Daniels want? I doubt he can get more than the MLE, and I wouldn't be surprised if we offer most of ours to him in the offseason.

I guess not. It sounds like his same rhetoric from last year. I just wonder how much input he is having into the personnel decisions. We snubbed our noses this year at a lot of point guards who seem to be doing very well other places, and we signed Mr. Ward when everybody else was gone.

I think the title "Failing to mesh" right now is an understatement. I think with a little more hustle, we have a better record.

I see it more likely to be a shift in the playing time distribution than anything else.

Like Juwan Howard not playing at all in the 2nd half, and Mo Taylor not getting any 4th quarter minutes.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Mo be coming off the bench soon. I also wouldn't be surprised if Barrett gets a couple starts, or if JVG goes to a big lineup, and Boki gets a couple starts in favor of a PG.
