It's wierd seeing people fight over a guy that might not even start..for any of the teams that want him. I don't think you can ever 'promise' a guy a starting position, it's the competition that drives players to work.

All the delay is just gamesmanship, and I do think Mike is enjoying the attention. The uncertainty is driving teams to offer more, more years like our panicky fans or to come up with a SnT that Toronto might consider. Houston is dealing from the position of strenght A.his new house B. a chance to be THE third option C. the prospects of a healthy Tmac and Yao.

I don't know how it really works in the NBA but I don't think it would be above Cuban to offer Mike participation in some sweetheart investment deals though. Hey Mike, Les can offer you a good deal on some municiple bonds!

I don't know what worse--James delaying or hearing some of you bellyache about the front office? I hope he signs soon, so everyone can start complaining about the next thing our front office can't control. Worldwide hunger? Increased hurricanes? Global warming? National debt?

Get over the Gay trade, already. The front office is not as stupid as you think.

Why would he even consider the Mavs? Everyone knows that even if he does play more than 25 minutes/game, it's only until Harris matures a little. If he were on last year's Mavs' team, he'd be the 4th guard in minutes after Stackhouse. If he goes there, the only consolation to the Rockets is that he will make absolutely no difference for the Mavs (besides a little depth).

Its most likely Houston for James. First he mentioned that he wants team to recognize that he is part of the peice to win championship and the closest team to recognize that would be Houston. Mavs already have Dirk, Terry, Stackhouse, Howard n Harris that already get alot of attention....he wont be recognized there and as much he would be in houston. With Houston he will instantly be the 3rd best player for the team.

With Minnesota he could be the 2nd best player for the team but its just too far away from home.

Also he is building a new house in Houston with new child on the way....i really think he wants to settle down here in Houston for long term and retire. Hes just waiting for a sign n trade imo.

If they can be wrong about Eddie Griffen, they can be wrong about Rudy Gay... That alone doesn't make them stupid or smart BUT....

Honestly... we've been competing over ONE player, with the likes of Dallas.... who pretty much are free to gamble their entire offseason on one player.... We have so many holes to fill, and plenty of control, to either give in to this one guy's demands and move on, or move on to other free agents and pull the offer, while they're still some to pick from, and NOW!

well he clearly isn't get the offers he wants if he is delaying. so i guess he will end up signing with the team he wants unless someone blows his socks off.

    I think it's truly 50/50 right now.

    1. Avery Johnson >>> Jeff Van Gundy from a player relationship standpoint, personality standpoint, and you shipped my ass to Canada standpoint. Look at what Avery did for another "shoot first PG". Very compelling reason for James to sign in Dallas.

    2. Dallas front office >>> Houston front office. Houston FO is going to change under Morey. Change = uncertainty. I hate to say it but Dallas has been solid for a long while now.

    3. Dallas roster >>> Houston roster

    4. Players love Cuban.

    5. More shots in Houston to shoot.

    6. Houston is home.

    =========================

    I cant' stand this.

I was thinking he would head out to Dallas, but it doesnt make too much sense. Ill doubt he will contribute much after a year with Harris waiting in the wings. He may start in Dallas, but their backcourt is pretty stacked.

I wouldn't be suprised if Harris is dealt if MJ signs. Harris was a decent prospect and the Mavs have been wanting him to take over the starting spot for quite some while, but he obviously has shown that he isn't ready and maybe they're beginning to realize he just isn't that good.

Harris also has pretty good trade value.

Of all the free agents we target, it has to be the guy that holds out the longest and makes us wait to find out if he is going to Beltran us. Figures.

The rumored Miami deal is Posey for James at about 6 mil.

I think the reason this is dragging out is that no one is offering James more than 3 years, well maybe Minnesota.

This can't be true... Dallas is more a Run'n Gun offense. Rox is more defense oriented.

That sounds like a good deal, but why would Toronto take on Posey's contract when they already have Joey Graham, who is a very similar player to Posey.

All offers are at 4 years because of the over 36 rule. He can't make any more money with a 5 year deal.

He is a tremendous value at 4 year MLE deal and a bunch of teams know it.
    It is up to him.

Hold on fellas, he could still land in Houston, no team has outbid us, it is up to Mike James, and IF he does land in Houston his wife should become a local hero.
