I did go to Baylor. Graduated in 1996.

Rumor is Singletary told BU the only way they could show him they were committed to winning was if they paid each assistant $500,000. BU said, "no thanks." Particularly to a "project coach" like Singletary would be. Singletary then went to the press saying, "Baylor's not committed to winning." Which pissed off heavily-involved alumni big time.

I'm genuinely excited about this...and I haven't been excited about BU football since I was a freshman there.

I was at BU from 92-96 myself. I remember watching good solid football during my time. We had good talent especially on some of those defenses.

I won a $500 bet when we beat Arizona in the Sun Bowl back in '92. My buddy (who went to UA) was so confident they would beat us because "we were just Baylor."

I hope those days come again soon.

Freshman year I was in Penland. Moved to Waco Park on the other side of I-35 the rest of the time.

I've been back a few times and I hardly recognize the place.

Kinda sucks if true...Briles brought the program back from the dead...but he couldn't win out of conference games because of poor defense and stupid mistakes...and he hasn't won a bowl since being here. So, maybe this is as far as he could take UH, meaning there's a better coach out there that can take the program to the next level.

I'm excited for BU Football too! Hopefully we won't be the laughingstock soon enough of the Big XII in football (In basketball we're actually good this year).

    Btw, just sayin...Class of '08!

Good to see Briles move up to the Big 12, 1.8M per year is a nice chunk of change as well. I do wonder if Briles could have landed a more secure job though, it's hard to win at Baylor when you have to recruit/play against the likes of OU, UT, TTech, A&M, and now Mizzou, KU, and CU are rising up fast.

Any Coug fans have any info on the next UH coach? It looks like a pretty attractive job in that you have a lot of talent in Houston to choose from.

LOL. Not often you see a coach screwing over his own alma mater like that.

Don't get TOO excited, Baylor fans. Briles has some serious drawbacks. I guess you can't get worse than zero conference wins, though, so good luck! UH fans know what it's like to go winless. Get ready for some exciting offense and non-existant D, special teams, preparation, and bowl wins. Briles does seem to do a good job recruiting out of East Texas and UH's strength program improved quite a bit under him. Not sure if he's responsible, but it happened. I think he'll win some games, but he wasn't good enough to get UH any real respect and I think the story will be the same at Baylor.

No clue who might replace him since this occurred out of the blue. Names getting tossed around so far by fans are Bowers and Applewhite. I don't know the situations with either. Maggard plucked Briles out of nowhere and I have to believe he'll do the same this time around. With luck, he has known Briles was ready to move on and had a wishlist ready.

I too was in Penland...one of my closest friends lived in Waco Park. Lived at Centre sophomore year...and then lived at Bear County Condos on Bagby the rest of the time I was there. I'm guessing we'd have mutual friends.

Small world. I bet we do know some of the same people. I wish I was back there right now headed to Vitek's for a gut pack. I miss the good ole days.

As for Briles, we will get us to at least respectability. If we have an exciting offense, good special teams, and make bowl appearances regularly, sign me up. The last 12 years have been horrible.

I don't care about UH football or Baylor football...I'm your average joe fan....if either team actually got good, I'd watch (like with A&M basketball), but until then, no thanks.

that said, why are people salivating over Art Briles? I still don't care about UH football...I guess they're better then they were, but other than UH students/alumni (and often not them), nobody else cares. I guess that's success?

I'm currently in my room, literally just down the block from Vitek's on 16th. I may go get a Gut Pack in a few minutes. I will cherish it as you would...for you! :)

I believe someone said this right, earlier. This puts the program at a crossroads. We will either get better, or get worse.

What scares me is, from my experience as a coog fan, we have a tendency to get worse.

I hope the first person Art called was Kevin Kolb to send thanks for getting him a nice raise.
