Here I am thinking that anyone who picked a side, no matter which, for a knee bend is a moron.

It's not about 'picking a side'. It's about

    1. The president using his bully pulpit and clout as the President of the United States which is upheld by the Constitution lambasting a private organization for not firing employees for a type of speech.

    2. As a veteran, it's also about the president who has discredited POWs as losers using dead veterans as a shield to discredit a protest that has nothing to do with veterans. I'm upset about that. And I think you should respect my right to be rationally upset about that.

    3. And it's about the hyper nationalistic culture this country is dangerously approaching that a knee bend makes you an 'enemy' of one's ideals which is the mentality of millions of Americans. I find that rather unsettling.

That's not picking a side. It's about being rationally concerned about what is happening to this country.

I'm mainly joking in my take above, even though I do cherish my uncle's flag from his military funeral.

My point is just that it makes MUCH more sense to care about an actually illegal flag activity than a harmless legal activity during the anthem.

Millions of Americans watch the anthem and waving flag from their couches, belching farting and talking, never standing. And good for them.

This reads like the stilted writing style Trump uses for his tweets. Also the same stilted logic.

My response to your # points.

    1) Everyone should ignore this tweeting freak especially when it comes to non-political matters. Ignore it because that's the only way it doesn't work. But as I said MORONs can't help themselves and can't wait to get involved.

    2) In the same vein, ignore it especially when you know it's only for a laugh, or a shriek, petty political games. If Trump mocks a veteran, don't take it personal. If Trump praises a veteran, don't light up with pride. It's a game, don't be used, ignore it.

    3) Poor, lower & middle class patriots I'm sorry to say are facking MORONs. At least when it comes to their patriotism. They are patriots because most of the time it's all they have. But many of them never ask why is that patriotism all they have? They just wrap themselves with the flag while they weep about their debt, poor education, and hunger.

So yes there are sides. Team 1, an "enlightened" side who knows it's a game and does everything it can to win. Team 2) who thinks it's real while getting exploited by the game, it's rules, and the opponent. Kap and the others who are involved in this flag, knee, "controversy" are on the fake losing side.

I will add that there is another player, a survivor, who jumps between sides and tries to always be on the side that is winning at that moment. I'm not ashamed to say I'm a survivor.

Are these US flag briefs a trend now? One of my Judo students was wearing a pair last night.

[IMG] Yep. I've got one of these Judo Gi's. I was joking last year that if we forgot the flag at a tournament I could just stand there while they play the national anthem.

Are we sure that the Astro video wasn't actually made in the 70's at one of those clubs on Montrose?

I don't care so mmuch about the US flag briefs but I am bothered by having so many champagne celebrations. We had one when we clinched the playoffs and now one now when we win the first series. I'm very happy the Stros got in the playoffs and won the first series but there is still a lot of baseball to be played. A big champagne blowout seems like something that should be for winning it all. Do other sports do this? Did the Rockets have a big champagne locker room celebration when they beat OKC in the first round?

No...but everyone and their dog makes the playoffs in the NBA. More teams make the playoffs than don't. Very different in baseball.
