I have been getting back into golf lately and have been surprised some of the courses I used to play at regularly have now gone fully private. I'm in the North side of town almost to the Woodlands. I currently regularly play or I'm familiar with: Augusta Pines Cypresswood Windrose Gleanloch Golf Club of Houston Blackhorse Wildcat when I want the long drive to meet friends. A lot of the Woodlands courses have been taken private recently. I'm looking for thoughts about some of the best places to play around Houston (need to be public so I can play! Yes, I'm sure Bluejack, Carlton Woods or Champions is awesome). Willing to drive a while to try out a great place. Thoughts? Ideas? Hidden Gems? Any places outside of the city worth a 60-90 minute drive? Willing to lay down good money for a good course, but always like a bargain too.
Honestly, the ones you listed are probably your best bets. High Meadow Ranch is a great course on the north side. Maybe Tour 18, Timber Creek, & Atascocita as well, but those are it for the most part.
