This mentality will have you sleeping under a bridge behind that jailhouse on Jensen. Jensen and Lyons to be exact.
He's not. this is incorrect. two-way contract players occupy 16th/17th spot allowed for these circumstances. And House is still on a two-way contract. With melo gone, there's 14 on the actual active nba roster, leaving room to add a player or house as an example, if he gets eventually converted to an nba contract. Being on a two way deal doesn't occupy a player being on the rockets active roster list
For a player who played on your summer league and been on the radar, house been competing for a while. People had to see his emergence coming since back in July. He dropped 30 in a summer league game. Considering the injuries, morey should had a talk with him to let him know he is the future of the rockets. IMO.
I get the strategy of trying to force him to commit to 3 year minimum rather than convert and only get his services (for sure) this year. But this idea that the Rockets don't want to be used by a player to increase their value on the market in return for one year of service is really just one of Morey's talking points. We are doing exactly that with Austin Rivers. If Melo had worked out, we were doing exactly that with Melo. Frankly, any one year contract we enter into is doing exactly that. Didn't we do that with Gerald? And it seems a fair trade. The player busts ass to try and get a better deal and the Rockets get the benefit of the player busting ass.
The people that are complaining about not giving in to House's demands for a one year deal would be the same people complaining about Morey not doing his job if House hits free agency this summer. People complain out of both sides of their mouths. And apparently, negotiations can be settled instantaneously and it's all on the team to make sure it does.
In the event he refuses to sign a multi-year, do you still feel like there is no scenario worth making House playoff-eligible this year?
This is not a scientifically researched conclusion, but... I'll bet the same people who are whining about Morey/Tilman/Rockets not just giving House whatever he wants to get him to stay are the first ones to blame Morey/Tilman/Rockets for handing out stupid contracts that hamper our efforts to being in elite free agents.
Man, some players just need to know who they are. You get a chance to grab an NBA contract. You are an undrafted player who can easely find yourself out of the league but instead find yourself in a perfect situation. And its not enough for you... The highway to sign in Lithauania
If our health looks good, we look ready to compete with GS, there are no decent free agents in the buyout market, and we've exhausted all of our trade options for wings then let's sign him up this year for the playoffs and go for it. Presently, none of those things have been determined yet. If we cave in to House now on the one-year deal he's an unrestricted free agent in the summer. And for what? A half season rental when we're all banged up and GS has Cousins? GS literally cannot afford to re-sign Cousins next year unless he takes a discount again. I'd rather he stay on the Vipers and he remains a RFA in the summer. There is no reason to acquiesce to House's demand for a one-year deal at this point in time except for fan pressure and complaints.
He won't be an unrestricted agent. That's a false rumor that is addressed in this thread, and many other threads. If not signed long-term, he will be restricted no matter what Morey does this season, short of cutting him. So, if you agree there is a scenario of not having an adequate roster for the playoffs, in which you'd convert him, then that's all we are talking about here. I thought maybe you were for stashing him, no matter what, as some penance for not signing. Yes, we are prematurely discussing this until we see what happens with the MLE, but what's the harm in that? as for me, if we can't sign him long-term, I'm 100% for converting him, and if there is no roster spot available, I'd cut Chriss, Ennis or Nene to make one. Nene didn't even play against GSW last year.
So someone said his 2-way contract can be traded. Can this be traded as part of a package along with other players? And does the team acquiring him hold the right to match this summer if he’s converted for the rest of the year by that team?
If Morey doesn't figure out a way to pick up House, Dedmon, or Bazemore by the trade/buyout deadline, I'm going to be sick...
How sick? If it’s anything serious then I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. But if it’s just a slight uncomfortable feeling short term then I’m ok with it for making it sound like those three players are the be all end all.
