The Ivies didn't punish the military for being Republican-they punished the military for being discriminatory, as they should have. Now that the military has decided not to discriminate, the penalty is being rescinded. Though, as you and any political infant would know, anti-homosexual sentiments tend to run higher among the Republican party, which (yes admittedly) does happen to have strange bedfellows like ultra-progressive business liberals and Stone Age evangelists living together, so I won't generalize anything. However, it is no coincidence that within the last two decades, the greatest victories for same-sex rights have come from Democratic administrations. which I suppose makes your political standing somewhat awkward, but hey, what the hell. guess we can agree on gay rights.
the military, as you should have noticed, is subservient to civilian authority. just as it will now, for the past 16 years it's been following the law of the land.
replace "the military" in my previous statement, with "the military commanded by a civilian president and bound by the laws of Congress, which may or may not have inherently discriminatory views on homosexuals and thankfully, for this administration at least, does not." semantics, semantics
The Ivies have a non-discrimination policy based on sexual orientation. The military didn't follow those policies and thus were not allowed on campus - no different than any other organization that did the same. Now they don't violate their policies, and thus are being re-invited to campus.
you are such a tool basso Being the champion of gay rights you espouse to be, shouldn't you be applauding these actions by the ivies? Instead you look for any excuse to mock and belittle these actions by congress and the president. As I have always said, in a parallel universe, when you were half way sane, you would be happy about this. so sad what you've become. I hope some day you get right with yourself.
JIm Treacher, echoing my thought about battalions of lesbians: it’ll give the terrorists yet another reason to hate us. The Gitmo detainees already go out of their minds when addressed directly by a female with her whole face showing. Just think how these 12th-Century dip$#!+s will react when they get their butts kicked by some gay dudes. It’ll just add to the humiliation. Proud of my President today! Obama ends gays in military ban President Barack Obama on Friday formally signed off on ending the ban on gays serving openly in the military, doing away with a policy that's been controversial from the day it was enacted and making good on his 2008 campaign promise to the gay community.
