how long are you in Manila? I've been there and the traffic is the worst in the world...Go to Casino Philipino and the don't forget to visit the ladies...
Manila for 3 days, Palawan for 4, Bangkok for 6, Angor Watt (Siem Reap) for 2, and Hong Kong for 2.5 (the Chinese New Year). then back to the US to work my tail off and pay the bills for this jaunt. yeah...been to Subic Bay once in 94....holy crap : "uh, I'll take #34, #25, and #112."
Bring books one through five of Stephen King's Dark Tower series. Great reading, very entertaining. Not that you'll be able to finish all five books in 27 hours, but it will give you a nice start...
What airline are you traveling. I've always liked Arabian and Emirates the best atleast that part of the country. But I usually flew out of Riyadh... O yea If your stopping in Amsterdam, let me guess Lufthansa, or Continental. Hey they have those cool condom machines, and its real funny giving a child a 'euro' and telling him its a candy machine
I could really go off right now, but I won't. . . . As for the topic at hand, every time I fly on 20 hour flights, I take a BUNCH of sports magazines (SI, ESPN, TSN) and even the crappy ones like SLAM! just to pass the time. Plus all long international flights have personal video screens (like others have mentioned) where you can watch movies. It's also fun to take a notepad and pen and just write. Write stories, articles, columns, anecdotes, journal, diary, etc. But I love to write, so it may not be for everyone.
Unlike Continental (which I usually fly), United does not have the personal movie selections for coach travellers. So I am stuck watching the following three movies: Freaky Friday Seabiscuit My Summer In Tuscany (or something like that) I am not thrilled about the selections. Maybe with a few drinks they could become more interesting, but I dont like drinking on planes very much. I kept a travel journal when I travelled all over the world after college, thats an interesting idea.........
multiple options is the key done the coach with just 1 big screen try cds, gameboys, books, magazines, drinking, working, writing between all those all always find time flys
If I had to be on a plane for 27 frickin hours, I'd try my darnedest to get into the mile high club by the end of it.
If you have a pretty stewardess, flirt with her. Perhaps she would upgrade you to business class. Happened to me on Continental - twice!
And if you have a fat ugly one and you're the first living being to flirt with her in 5 years, you might get upgraded to First Class. (ya, i know i'm a male pig/jerk )
Langoliers. Definitely Langoliers. As for the GBA, I was surprisingly impressed with Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is another good one. I have 52 hours currently racked up on mine. Metroid Fusion is decent, but is only about 3-4 hours long.
