Martin is probably the best we can get from a TMac trade realistically.

His biggest disadvantage is that he is not a play maker. Brooks is not a play maker. Ariza is not a play maker. Lowry is a play maker but cannot shoot.

If you just want to watch an exciting team. Getting Martin is fine. If we want to be a title contender in the near future, Martin is not the answer. We need an elite play maker to contend.

I think we can all find at least a little confidence in the idea that he fits our offense this season. We're moving the ball, ourselves, and taking open jumpers when they present themselves even early in the shot clock. Kevin Martin has incredible range. He shoots the ball better from three than Ariza does from the field...yeah yeah small wonder

A big man, huh? Brian Cook's pretty big!

Honestly, I think if we do dump McGrady's contract for Martin, we'll probably include Luis Scola. Sacramento will really want Carl Landry, but I can't see Daryl Morey doing that, not with how Landry is playing.

who cares if kevin martin is injury prone? he is still 6 years younger than t-mac, and still has a better chance of recovering.

I don't think you give up Mac's expiring contract AND Scola for Kevin Martin. Sacramento doesn't have another ball player that interests me enough (apart from Tyreke who is untouchable)

if we're tossing Scola into deals at this point we might as well do what it takes to get Bosh

I think Martin would pair up with Lowry nicely, just as Ariza pairs up with Brooks nicely.

I wonder if he'd get beaten up so badly on a team with other options. For the last few years, if you're playing the Kings you just gang up on Kevin Martin. Obviously the best and dirtiest defenders would be guarding him. He'd probably play a few less minutes here and he'd be a second option to Yao next season. Hell, maybe even a third to Yao and Landry.

Is Landry an All Star calibre big man? He's definately a better player than Dalembert or Okafor with a far more appealing contract.

Looking at scenario based mostly on salary...

Rockets: Martin + Casspi + Thomas + Rodriguez (trade filler to make salaries work)
    * Rockets get under LT

    Kings: Landry + McGrady + $3M

    Brooks, Lowry, Rodriguez
    Martin, Budinger, Taylor
    Ariza, Battier, Cook, Harris (non-guaranteed)
    Scola, Casspi, Dorsey, KT
    Hayes, Andersen, Yao

    * Two players would need to be traded or waived beforehand. Another team/s could also be involved.

Eh. I've always been "meh" about Kevin Martin although i have barely seen him play. After watching all the highlight vids i could find, i'm still "meh.."

He seems maybe like a Rip Hamilton with a 3 point shot except he's been on a terrible team that wins nothing with him leading whereas Rip always had stacked teams.

He's making superstar money but he is a 2nd option at best. Which is fine but Yao is also a second option imo.

You don't remember Dick Hamilton on the Washington Wizards, do you?

Dick Hamilton is a very nice player. Dick Hamilton with 3 pt range, plus the ability to draw fouls, is an even nicer player.

And $11 mil a year is 2nd option money, by the way.

Agreed about the need for a playmaker. It's one of the reasons why I have been so adamant about burying the hatchet on both sides and just playing Tracy. But anyway, who is even available that could qualify as the playmaker that we are currently lacking? Sure, people can suggest throwing the kitchen sink at New Orleans for CP3. That's not a very realistic suggestion if you go by Morey's history given how many nasty contracts we would have to absorb to even get NO's attention.

So who is left? Do we resurrect the Ricky Rubio circus even though that does nothing for us in the immediate future? Do we drink the "Ramon Sessions = All-Star" kool-aid that people were passing around earlier this summer? Andre Miller? I mean, the list of realistic options isn't very extensive.

Just wait till Martin plays defense.

Martin + Brooks = Low Post Defense Meltdown.

They will get posted so easily..

Not when Yao gets back.......and Brooks has not had a problem with it....

BTW - Maggette is now shooting .526% overall.

    ;)

Bro, I didn't mean it that literally. I don't know but I just feel that Kevin Martin seems to have peaked as a player already. He's a starter and he's shown that he's a pure scorer. Pretty much that.

Carl Landry is very efficient given that he averages 25 mpg. What more if he actually becomes our starter 2-3 years down the road. And he hasn't been in the league as long as Kevin Martin has. Give the guy a chance to peak. Besides him, young guns e.g. Chase, Brooks, Lowry, Ariza, Jermaine Taylor. You get Kevin Martin, these guys will get less PT, less touches, less development.

Getting Kevin Martin is like getting T-mac minus the passing and the rebounding. We don't need this guy.
