I've watched Stewart interview O'Reilly before. I don't see why one can't converse with him. Just point out his fallacies, the way he mislead people with his statements, and even if his core constituents don't care, at least your viewship understand his methods.

By walking out, they're basically saying they're too stupid and can't have a civil discussion with someone they disagree with. It only serves to make the conservative base more certain that the liberal media is out to get them.

Backing down on the muslim center sends EXACTLY the message that the terrorists want. They use any American examples of anti-Islam as recruiting tools.

Reason #1 to keep center: 1st Ammendment: Freedom of Religion
Reason #2: Moving muslim center will empower extremists

Slap in our face? Did this group bomb us? At some point we need to get over 9/11 and move on.

That said, the Iman guy should make a huge peace offering somehow. Build a memorial or include some community outreach programs. This is his big chance to become a vocal leader for Muslims by finding ways to bridge a gap to mainstream Americans (those willing to listen anyway). This has been one thing missing from the Muslim world. Unfortunately, we have not seen that. It's not a requirement that he reach out ...but he has an opportunity that he's missing, IMO.

Remove the mosque or allow addition places of worship, within the center, for other religions. Wouldn't that be the ultimate form of outreach?

What kind of outreach is there in removing the Islamic part of it?

What reason is there to remove the Islamic part of the community center?

How about we don't discriminate by religion in America. How's that for a novel idea. Then freedom wins. Government doesn't intrude, the free market decides.

All the things you teabaggers say you are for. Walk the walk, don't just talk.

I'm saying that if it's really an outreach center and not just a mosque, then allow worship areas for other religions within the center. If Muslims don't think of this community center as a mosque, then this shouldn't be an issue, right?

And if they do think of it as a mosque it shouldn't be an issue, right?

There is nothing inherently wrong with having a mosque, even though this isn't a mosque.

They certainly shouldn't have to do away with their own spiritual needs to please people who have a problem with anything dealing with Islam.

An entire religion wouldn't get blamed for the actions of extremists if the moderates would take a stand. I wish moderate Islam would take a stand instead of giving these extremists a voice.

Behar and Goldberg walked out because they got pwn3d by O'Reilly, and instead of trying to defend themselves, they waved the white flag and tried to claim some moral high ground and left. They're just not on the same level of ability to debate as Bill, so they chickened out and walked. They're the ones that came off looking bad, not O'Reilly, that's for sure.

Who walked off and who stayed? Liberals, especially those in the entertainment business, are simply not used to being challenged. That's why they stack the deck against Hasselback. To them that's a fair fight.

You mean how moderate Christians are currently not taking a stand against ultra-conservative warped Christians? So therefore Christianity represents everything the tea baggers and fox news watchers believe?

Moderation doesn't make the news. Extremists do. No one would watch or read about how your typical Muslim live, work, pay bills, worry about their kids, etc. When the media is driven by profits, they become slaves to profits. And there's no profit in moderation.

Challenged? What he said was stupid, probably trying to stir up some reaction. What Whoopi and Behar did was give him more publicity, in that way what he did was smart. But other than that there is nothing he said that could be considered pwnage.

You walk off, you've lost by default.

Seriously though, liberals just can't stand be challenged. Hasselback is used to the heat, Behar and Whoopi are not.

And what was so stupid about what O'Reilly said? We were attacked by Muslims - not Mormons, or Buddhists, or...

I agree with alexcapone, if moderate would take a firm stand against the extremists we would have a lot less problem.

To Meh, Moderate Christians and other religions does take a stand against the extremist, you don't see KKK or other extremist of any kind a major political power in the world, only extremist Muslim. I truely believe that most Muslim are not on board with the moderate or have some sort of sympathy toward the extremist. Because if that is not the case we would not have violence cause by extremist all over the world and we would certainly taken out all of the extremist in the middle east and most part of the world by now.

If i remember correctly we found Saddam and he was hiding in a hole, the reason we found him is because people truly does not like him or want him around. The reason we have violence cause by the extremist all over the world is because the moderate refuses to help the authorities bring in the responsible parties. This is the very same reason we could not win in Vietnam because we did not have the support of the people.

Exactly. Instead of taking a stand, they take a different approach, and are defiant and try to convince people that they shouldn't have to "take a stand" because the terrorists aren't really Muslim. That approach has failed.

Really now? The only extremist government in the world are Muslims? And Americans stand up to extremist views because KKK's not in office?

Americans get rattled by hate-mongering like everyone else in the world. We seem more civilized because we are the most powerful and wealthy nation in the entire world. So generally we don't have to give a damn. But take the money and power out of American, and we're no better than anyone else.

Think about it. 9/11 killed thousands of Americans. And with all due respect to the victims, it was a tragedy of small scale relative to what you see in the rest of the world. Yet we responded by bashing everything Muslim-related, passed laws that stripped away tons of civil rights, started two wars, one of which isn't even remotely justified, etc. etc. etc.

Now imagine if the US was a war-torn country where most of the money comes from large foreign corporations who only care about profit and don't give a damn about the people. And let's see how us non-Muslims stay "moderate".
