Well putting their position on their website for all to see who want to know, sending a signed petition etc. is trying to publicize their position. Other Muslims who have written books slamming terrorism is trying to publicize the position. Do you blame the media for not covering the positive things in Iraq? Do you think they are too critical in their stories of Iraq? If they are then isn't it the responsibility of all those that believe differently to better publicize their views? It's not the media's fault.
..... .. . ..... (droxford waits for MEOWGI's response) .... Ya know what, MEOWGI, I'm glad you're all for peace and love and compassion. I really am. But I'm not Buddhist. I don't want to see you, me, Johnson, Berg, civillians, soldiers, or anyone else in any other country or religion get murdered at the hands maniacs who accuse us of being 'infidels'. That means I believe that when they kill us by the thousands, we gotta pick up a gun and kick somebody's ass, and while you're enjoying life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, you should remember that you're only able to do so because more than one soldier got shot in the face to defend you. Thank you vets! I love my freedom! And to all of you who think we should NOT retaliate against violent attacks: ssssssssscrew you guys.... I'm a-goin' home -- droxford
Sure - I probably need to qualify it a bit. I was driving to Austin last weekend and I was stuck at a traffic light in Bastrop, Texas. The guy in the pickup truck in front of me had stripped the paint off his tailgate, and using paint, etched my sig into his tailgate for everybody to see. I thought it was hilarious.
As I've cited earlier, things are being done... but how would you know, if the media didn't tell you? As I mentioned, though, there are people going on TV, writing in newspapers, and appearing on the radio and espousing the true values of the religion. I'm sorry you haven't been exposed to it so far. I hope it changes.
Agreed, and thanks very much for the information you have provided. I also hope their voice against terrorism will be louder in the future.
I hope it does too. Hopefully you won't take me the wrong way. I work with and am friends with a lot of Muslims and have absolutely no issues with any of them, but I would simply like to see the Muslim community here continue and build upon their marketing campaign to distance themselves from these barbarians in Al Queda.
I really wish we had a CIA hit squad to deal with Terrorists instead of an army...seems like it would be much more effective. TedWhite, you sir, are a dispicable liar. DD
I think what is despicable and terrible is the killing of Mr. Johnson today. Not as horrible, but still despicable, is what happened in Abu Ghraib - the picture with the lady smiling above the corpse is quite disgusting and a shame for the whole Western civilized world.
I believe this does not really belong into this thread, but I think you might believe the New Yorker. I have read this in numerous reputable publications. http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/?040510fa_fact
As far as I am concerned, we began the war on terrorism in exactly the right way. We told the world to take sides on this and the Taliban chose the other side. We went in and kicked Taliban a$$, took out all of the AQ we could fund and while we were doing that, I was all about Bush leading us in the war on terror. I actually told my wife that if they had a draft, I would go enlist before they even started calling numbers. Then, they took our troops (except a token contingent of 15K or so that has NO hope of securing all of Afghanistan much less finding OBL) away from the terrorists that flew the planes into buildings to wage an unnecessary, unjustified, elective war even though, as Zinni says so eloquently, Saddam was completely contained and unable to become a threat to the Kurds, much less his neighbors or the US. We should have stayed in Afghanistan and taken out ALL of AQ and then rebuilt it like we said we would (TWICE, once under Reagan and once under Bush). We could have a working, democratic Afghanistan to lead the way for the Middle East. Then, we should have bolstered our intelligence services and taken covert action against any identified terrorist cells or leaders, just as John Kerry plans to do once he is President. Only 6.5 months before we replace this corrupt, dishonest administration with someone who has integrity and can lead the US AND the world in the war on terror.
If Kerry is elected it will just be the next corrupt, dishonest administration. Next time I see a politician who is not corrupt and dishonest will probably be the first time. And they are all full of integrity at election time. RIP
That is pretty dang funny. Anybody can slap a bumpersticker on their truck -- it takes conviction to strip your paintjob and make your own!
Think about this- After 9/11, what if instead of invading Iraq, we had concentrated our attention, energy, and resources on building legitimate stable democracies in Afghanistan and Palestine. Specifically, what if we had pursued Bin Laden with all our military and law enforcement resources, made sure that Karzai had everthing he need to ensure stability in Afghanistan. Then what if we put real pressure (through threat of withdrawal of diplomatic and economic support) on Israel to agree to a viable, contiguous Palestinian state. And offered substantial support and incentives to the Palestinians to build democratic institutions. What if Afghanistan and Palestine were shining democratic jewels in the Middle East and the world recognized that this was due to the support and encouragement of the U.S? Do you think this would have been a more productive path than the invasion of Iraq? Do you think, we and the rest of the world, would be more secure? There are other ways. We don't have to keep doing what we've always done.
Well yeah, but seeing as how that didn't work too well and it happened, philosophically how would you have liked to see us respond in the aftermath? Do you think we should have attacked Afganistan or should we have just 'turned the other cheek'?
I have a life outside this bbs you know. I'm actually kind of busy tonight after work (which is rare for a Friday) I'm not trying to dodge anything. True communication is key. I will try to reply when I have the time to think and not spout emotionally. Can it wait 'till tomorrow? I honestly have no clear cut answers. I think war should be an desperate last decision, I'm not into retaliation.
