I agree but not perpetual. An eventual winner will emerge and I would prefer it was us.

When I spoke of their ]religion I italicized to infer sarcasm, or at least bewilderment. They believe in their religion and perceived reality is reality, right?

    What?

The numbers in this statement are so messed up as to defy explanation. I don't even know where to begin.

"Strike against terror" is a misleading expression. What we are striking against is not the real cause or the root of terror. The object of our strike is still human life. We are sowing seeds of violence as we strike. Striking in this way we will only bring about more hatred and violence into the world. This is exactly what we do not want to do.

How can you win against an enemy that is everywhere and nowhere at the same time?

I was making a point. There were hundreds of Branch Davidians and there are a billion Christians, give or take. There are more than hundreds of the terrorists, or people that share their distorted belief of an otherwise peaceful religion.

I did not mean to mislead only to show the proportions did nit warrant a tie to Koresh and his wack-o tribe.

That's wonderful GV, but how do you specifically propose that we "end it"?

Actually, no, the home of radical islam is in saudi arabia (15 of 19 hijackers, this unfortunate guy who was killed today, etc etc) , with the consent of, and feeding off of the frustration caused b, the dictatorial rule of the house of Saud.

That would be the best place to start, but I wonder why we didn't? :

Meanwhile, Iraq made little or no contribution, pre-invasion, to the world of radical Islam. Saddam was a bloodthirsty dictator, but he was largely a secular one, he massacred shiite extremists with no compunction.

As good a place to start as any? Not true, not true at all.

Send me the link, and I'll read it. And remember what I said - the fact that they may have died in custody does not mean that the guards killed them. Where is the link that states that the prisoners were killed by the guards?

There's about 2 billion christians and over 1 billion muslims.

There are millions of extremists in each religion, and each religion is capable of religiously/ethnically motivated murder. Look at the Bosnian Serb death camps and mass graves for muslims, and the slaughter of the Kosovars. Those were perpetuated by Christians. Rwanda was largely a christian nation. That didn't stop them from committing genocide.....etc.

That cycle doesn't seem to be producing an eventual winner in the Israeli/Palestinian situation. It only looks like there is more and more violence.

I do agree though that there is a way to win, and that way is multi layered. Sheer military alone won't do it. We need to isolate the terrorists, alienate them, show the contrast between their ideals and ours. We need to have intel that is accurate, precise and prompt. We need to have military and special operative teams that are able to strike rapidly, and get in and out with extreme speed.

We need a large and strong military to intimidate and deal with the state sponsors of terrorism.

Unless we have all of these it will always be an uphill battle.

We can only obtain the isolation and alienation of terrorism, by demonstrating our way is better. By showing our just ways and our freedom in the face of cruelty we show which way is better. It will cut off the funding and recruiting source of terrorists. In the civil rights movement action was really taken only when protestors showed their peaceful and just ways while dogs were being sent to atack them, and hoses were being sprayed at them. Anyone who saw that had no doubt which side was in the right and which was in the wrong. Those that were left were increasingly shunned and seen in a negative light. Changes were made.

Now I don't say that we need to be non-violent with terrorists, far from it. But we do need to stick to our ideals, and principles. The worse the terrorists our the more we should our freedoms, and justice up as badge. The more clear the difference between those that would murder, torture, and hate between those that would use justice, freedom, and goodwill, will be clear. But when we say they are doing it then we should do it too things will become blurred, and murky.

Present a clear picture and distinction of two ways and it will strike a big blow at terrorism.

Stop bombing and killing people. That's it. It's that simple. Turn the other cheek, live and let live -- whatever catchphrase you prefer. Has all the bombing and killing made the problem go away? No, it just made things a lot worse. We're further now from peace than ever.

How can expect our enemies to be peaceful if we refuse to consider the idea ourselves?

I would guess because of the information that the administration had it seemed like an appropriate place. My rant was to establish my position one who the enemy is.

There are financial and historical considerations to make and perhaps the administration relied to heavily on these in their decision making process. I will readily admit that as well.

I swear to God if Bill Clinton was President and this was going on I would be equally supportive. In fact history has made my eyes more keen to the good that Clinton did and not as narrowminded in my political views.

I believe that even the folks on this board that treat W harshly will look back on his two terms in twenty years and think kindly of the fool on the hill that led his nation with his heart and sought to put an end to a tangible evil. It is easy to point out his wrongdoings. Hell, I can do that. But he is doing the right thing and I hope his successor, whether it is next year or in five years, shares his singleminded determination to rid the world of Islamic Terrorists.

I completely agree with this whole post. I want to see more Muslims worldwide distance themselves from these atrocities carried out in the name of their religion. I don't see it enough.

I just don't see bombs and war ending Islamic extremism, I see it as fueling it.

There is/was NO information that links the home/power base of radical islam to Iraq under Hussein. I'm not talking about a terrorist training camp somewhere or anything like that, or even the shrines in Najaf and Carbala.

As an ideological movement radical Islam comes from a few places: radical wahabbis in the Arabian peninsula, the ayatollahs in Iran, the Mujhaddin training grounds in Afghanistan and their havens & madrassahs in Pakistan, the ghettoes of Gaza & the West Bank, and the jail cells of Egypt and the like.

There was no, and there is no, credible argument to be made that pre-war Iraq was a haven or source or breeding ground of dangerous political Islam. However, it is now, by our own doing.
