wow...way to judge a man's heart based on one comment which he immediately apologized for. awesome. coon and coup aren't close? are you pronouncing the "p" in coup!!??? it's one letter...one "n" sound different. the very same difference as your first example above. he wasn't typing it...he was saying it. it's one letter's difference. look...i don't blame them for firing him. i think the "unforgivable" comment is a bit much, though.
yes his racist heart has spoken for him this story is almost as silly for the school admin getting fired for using the word *****rdly.
I don't see how you can slip up and say the big coon. you can't call somone of her position coon while she's on the radio, even if it was a "slip" and keep your job.
i agree that it is a hard slip to make, but who knows what was going on in the guys mind. maybe he is a freak who gets pressured easily and was subconsciously thinking "don't say coon when you say coup" and coon came out. i think there is a psychological term for it and its not freudian slip. plus the guy immediately apologized for it, which is something that has to been taken into consideration rather than being mega-sensitive to the slip. on the other hand maybe the guy was a jerk who made a lot of crude comments for ratings and coon slipped out since he is so loose with his lip. i dunno...i don't think anyone here has actually listened to the guy so we won't know either. also, i don't think she was on the show. i think he was only talking about her possibly being the commish.
Race relations in Missouri can be a touchy matter. I'm not surprised in the least that the guy was fired. It seems harsh, but in many parts of Missouri I think they are still fighting the civil war.
i grew up in the bootheel, and i remember several instances of racial violence while I was in middle school. There was also severe rioting just across the river in Cairo. I remember images of armored cars patrolling the streets. that was a long time ago tho, late '60s, early '70s.
I'm sorry. I couldn't get through this thread without doing this after seeing that picture earlier. ...and I'm Ron Burgundy. Go **** yourself, San Diego! Too bad this real case of misspeak isn't nearly as exciting or controversial.
I never heard of "coon", coon something else, but perhaps that is me in my shell with $200,000 worth of weapons...I use to have a life, DAMN YOU!!!
Considering i have an album by the group The Coup I am sure I do Shoo and Shoot Coup and Coon just don't seem close to me Rocket River
I don't speak much in D&D and respect many people here, but let's be realistic - - This guy said the wrong thing at the wrong time. He has to live with it. I support it.
I agree. We don't know the man's character but speaking is his job and when he screws up like that it has to cost him. Hopefully the man gets a second chance somewhere.
wait...what??? please help me with this because i desperately want to understand what you're saying. the difference between shoo and shoot when said outloud is one consonant. the t. the difference between coup and coon when said aloud is one consonant. the n. how is that different??? why is it not the very same thing?
