I think that is a silly thing to get fired over. It seems clear that he said the wrong word...one doesn't have to be thinking coon to say coon instead of coup.

He probably would have been better served to have not apologized and just looked bewildered when called on it..insisting he said coup.

He was obviously trying to refer to the great movie "Cocoon"

"...general manager Tim Dorsey agreed the remark was accidental but said it was nonetheless "unacceptable, reprehensible and unforgivable."

Yeah...and your unforgivable as a human being. How can something that was a complete accident be unforgivable? This guy sounds like the biggest d-wad in the whole word.

How is Limbaugh pronouncing Nagin as "n***er" different from this guy pronouncing coup as "coon"? This guy realized his slip and immediately apologized. If the NAACP would stop commending the program manager for firing him they would notice the radio station has no blacks on the air. Great job program manager.

Because Limbaugh's listeners also refer to Nagin as a "n***er", that's why!

Don't know ablut him, but one of the Birmingham local talking heads does sometimes. I assumed he thought that was his name, but now that i hear it probably came from RL I would guess he is parroting the fat slob.

Way too harsh. This was obviously simple slip of the tongue.

Now firing him for praising Rice would have been totally justified.

Is that a good policy to have in this case?

For what, accidentally saying coon instead of coup when praising a person? That's stupid. This is total crap.

If he meant to say Niger or niggle or some other word that sounds a lot like it, then yes it is too harsh.

His job is to speak, and hopefully speak well when on air. He failed, miserably it seems, and uttered a racial slur when speaking of the Secretary of State. I don't think he did it on purpose but he did do it. If management wants to fire him, I think the have a right to.

he could have called her a hawkish, hypocritical hatemonger, which would be true, and i'd have had no problemo, but coon? rice is no coon.
