wow what a great race. me and my friend were watching it and we both noticed afterword that we were hitting the side of our leg durning the backstretch. made me think of kramer.
Great race, but I'm really dissapointed that Smarty didn't win. Unlike Funny Cide and War Emblem, Smarty has kind of captured America's imagination and it would be a great story to distract us as a nation from everything else going on.... Oh Well
I actually thought that Jones was let out too soon, but then I;ve thought that in the past and seen the horse in question win by 15 lengths.
i kept hoping smarty was gonna start pulling away a la the preakness but it didn't happen. damnit, they keep pulling me in by winning the first 2 and then lose the belmont. what is this? 5 out of 7 or 6 out of 8 now that have won 2 and lost the last? until they reviewed some recent ones i didn't realize how close we had been to the triple crown. which horse was it that lost by a friggin nose where the two horses were literally neck and neck and whichever one's head just happened to be bobbed forward at the finish was the winner? was that real quiet? was he also the one who had the huge lead coming down the stretch. damn this thing is hard to accomplish. just shows how damn awesome secretariat was once again. that belmont run is just mythical.
Why don't you see horses like Smarty Jones, War Emblem, Funny Cide, etc. in more than one Triple Run bid? I mean you see them one year then never hear about them again.
Wooooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooo! I don't know what I've won yet. I've never won before! But it's gonna be good! He was 36-1! Si it's gotta be about $500. I only picked him because he sounded like the name of the armadillos WR, Featherstone! This is my horse Show me the money!
I believe Belmont is the longest at 1.5 miles Preakness is 1 1/16 I think and Derby is 1 1/8. Feel free to correct me though. I also always wondered why these horses run the big races just once in their lives. Why cant Smary come back next year to run again?
I've always wondered this as well - Sea Biscuit raced until he was seven. It seems like there would be a big market for races between say Funny Cide, Smarty Jones, etc. I know there some other big names that are still under seven I just can't think of any...
Imagine a pitcher going for a perfect game, and the fans don't really have a home team to follow... and some no-name guy breaks it up in the final inning... how would you think the fans would feel? They were robbed of a chance to witness history... you can't blame them.
