Gilbert Arenas, Kevin Love, and Kobe would do. 1 on 1 would probably get too personal, resulting in fights.
Get rid of the dunk contest and replace it with a high-dunk competition. I have no idea who would win that.
Pete had the right idea. People want to see the creative stuff, not jump shots. With seemingly everything possible done in the slam dunk competition, I think HORSE could provide an opportunity for more creativity.
Nobody would want to play 1 on 1 at least not the big name players that we'd want to see. The All star weekend is for fun and there would be a lot of hurt egos. Besides, I think a marginal scrub player like DeShawn Stevenson could probably beat a Kobe or Lebron at least once if not a few times if they played 10 games.
wow, both of those guys were boring. I mean, do something that we couldn't/didn't do as kids.. you're in the NBA (even back then)
well horse may be entertaining the pg skills thing is dumb, reminds me of tryouts we used to have as kids for the city basketball league the 2ball thing with the wnba, legends player is dumb too. worst part is that is that they shorten the dunk contest to add all of these in. if anything the 3pt shootout and the dunk contest always made the weekend entertaining.... they really screwed up the dunk contest...this stupid 3 (or 4) years in the league or under rule, 4 participants? only 2 rounds? go back to 8 people, 3 rounds and anyone who wants to participate can. horse can be fun i just worry that they may cut it after this year if it takes too long or make it into PIG or something instead...i know there is the 24 sec clock but what if the players keep missing the shots they take. i have been in games of horse that have taken a real long time before.
At one point I wasn't sure if this was real or not because I was young when I heard that it was supposed to happen. I thought I had dreampt it up or something, heh. Good to see that that wasn't the case. Too bad it never happened. I wonder if Hakeem and Shaq both actually agreed to it. I mean, I remember it being advertised and everything. I'll have to put this with the other whatif's of the 90's.
Only problem with these one-on-one tourneys is that no one would do them. Players like AI and Rose would hate to be embarrassed. They are known to be great one-on-one players, so if they lost, it would hurt their image a bit. Pretty much why we never saw Lebron do the dunk contest. I like the 2-on-2 idea. Maybe make the top teams from each division pick 2 players, then just match up the teams based on their record (since each conference doesn't have an even number of teams). It would be a nice precursor to what the NBA playoffs will be like.
Rafer could win the Horse competition since he invents shots nobody has ever thought of taking before. Too bad a air ball floater couldnt take the title.
Bill Simmons has been pushing for this for years. And he has every right to gloat, especially if it does well.
They need to put in a 1 v 1 or 2 v 2 competition. How awesome would it be to see Kobe match up with Lebron 1 on 1? Or (3 years ago) Kobe and T-Mac vs. (now) Lebron and Wade?
