Horry is damn lazy. All he does is stand around the 3-pt line on offense and as soon as he gets the ball he looks to pass. The man had potential 6 years ago, but that time has passed. Rocket fans need to accept the fact that Horry never lived up to his hype.

Cassell is in Karl's doghouse along with Big Dog and Tim Thomas because none of them play any defense whatsoever.

When he was here he slashed and posted up also. in his later years he has stood around the three point line alot. but he has played with some of the best in the league- Shaq, kobe, jones, campbell, rice, Vane exel.

Horry hit some HUGE clutch threes in that Orlando series...

Also, he was a terrific weak side defender and caused havoc with his wingspan etc...

As to Sam, he was a player from day 1. Fearless, almost to a fault, and just slightly cocky. He was a favorite of mine as well. We are very fortunate to have a guy with even more skills to replace him with.

I do not take exception to anyone characterizing Robert Horry as lazy at times, afterall that is exactly how I have characterize him (as painful as that is).

But, in Phoneix and LA he was given specific duties to utilize his long arms as you mentioned, as well as unbalancing the match ups, which he does frequently. He is rangy and long and extends his defense very well. If anything he is probably a much more versatiule defender than when he was with the Rockets.

    While on Offense

With LA he is asked to pull the four out to the perimeter to improve Shaq'a attack or, while playing the three, he ranges to the outside, usually to the weakside to open up the middle for Kobe's stutter end-around attack, or to prevent a double aimed at stopping Kobe's stop-&-pop at the 16 foot mark.

    While on Defense

When Shaq is being pulled outside on defense, a tactic that is getting more and more prevalent(because it works), Robert is asked to set up under Shaq, and close as much of the middle (vacated by Shaq) as possible. When Shaq has to go inside following an offender, Robert protects the weakside reaction. Protecting that weakside with the speed some of these guys have, means a defender sometimes wanders a little farther toward the perimeter than in previous years.

    The Point

My real point behind all of this is: The perception that he wanders near the perimeter far too much, may be in error. His D coverage frequently hauls him out there, his offensive assignment is often to do the same thing.
