I agree that murder charges are excessive in a case of suicide and I doubt the teens will be charged with murder in this case but I find some of the other comments rather disturbing. Some posters seem to be shifting the blame onto the parents when we really don't know how that much about the parent's and how they brought up the girl. What if the girl snuck out to the party against the parents' wishes, what is she lied to them about going to the party? For that matter at the party what if she passed out because she was rufied?

Also I wonder how many people out there always did exactly what their parents told them and never rebelled in any way against their parents.

What about the months after the incident? Plenty of time for the parents to get her help.

According to the article, she hanged herself eight days after the incident and the pictures were being passed around school. There weren't "months after the incident" as posed in your question.

Some people here have been very quick to blame the parents. Teenagers are very adept at hiding their activities from their parents. Due to shame and fear of "getting caught" going to the party, this girl may not have told her mother and father that she had even been attacked. It is certainly possible that she kept it to herself for eight days, realized the pictures were everywhere, and hanged herself. Without further information, it is not possible to blame the parents.

Should the guys get a murder charge? No. They should face rape charges and probably some kind of felony endangerment or recklessness. Depending on state laws, there may be some other kind of charges that can be brought as well.

F you all. I hate you. Clutchfan posters are idiots!

So now if somebody from this BBS kills themselves will their parents try to charge me with murder?

Suck to hear about the rape though. No woman should ever go though such an event. :(

Five years ago I would tell you there is no way in hell homicide charges would be made. However since 9/11 law enforcement agencies of all levels and prosecutors have attempted to wedge non traditional crimes into higher penalty offenses. I think most likely will not result in homicide charges but I would not be shocked if the prosecutor bends up public pressure and tries.

As for the people indirectly blaming the victim or the victims parents, that is completely seperate from the conduct of the accused. I don't care if the victim regularly snorted coke and passed out at every party, it is irrelevant. It reminds me of the old argument that a woman dressing provocative was responsible for her own rape or when I worked in the federal prosecutor the argument that prostitutes could not be raped...

Another rape thread, another subset of clutchfans trying to blame the victim. Par for the course, sadly.

I'm not sure she was raped. All the article says is she was sexually assaulted. Not that that's better, but rape is on a whole different level of punishment for those boys.

You should seriously step away from this thread. Every word you've said just make you out to be a bigger and bigger jackass than you probably really are.

By they way, putting blame on the girl and her parents does, in a way, say that you condone what was done to her. People get drunk and pass put every day. It doesn't necessarily mean bad parenting. It's definitely not an excuse to get raped under any circumstance.

The crimes will still happen only news like this will make kids be smarter about posting in on the internet.

Don't blame the rapists for raping!

But if we're really pointing the finger at parents, the rapists' parents should get plenty of jail time too.

Don't these teens learn from what happened last year in Steubenville, Ohio?

The boys who did this crime will get the same punishment like the two high school football players in Ohio.
