You have to make it easier on Miami athletes. Less to remember when taking a polygraph. Plus we're not talking Rhodes Scholars here, I mean they get this book during freshman orientation.
Quan is a great pick-up in a need position. RP will not be coming to Austin, he has been actively recruiting for LSU for at least the last month...all the while, telling UT coaches he's 100% committed to the Horns.
Somebody give me a quick history lesson on Quan please. If he accepted baseball money doesn't he have to walk on an pay his own way (hence he wouldn't cost a scholarship)?
Quan committed to UT in 2000, signed with the Angels to play pro ball and will have his tuition paid for by the Angels....I'm pretty sure he won't count against the numbers. Quan is an awesome player, although he played in 2A, he was all-state at three positions (WR,DB & KR) TWICE.
Yeah, Quan is a big pickup, and I think he's going to play DB for us. Shocking the world...Signing with Texas after publicly declaring A&M? Very doubtful, and I don't think I would want a player that deceitful on the team, but it would be shocking.
Bennett decides to attend A&M Basketball pitch by Gillispie helps sway tight end By NIKI HERBERT Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle Here's one you might not have heard before: Highly touted football recruit picks Texas A&M — for its basketball program. Alief Taylor's Martellus Bennett, rated No. 1 among the nation's high school tight ends, announced Monday night he will be spending his next four seasons in College Station. He had narrowed his choices to A&M, Texas and LSU because all three schools said he could play both football and basketball. "Coach (Billy) Gillispie showed me the most love in basketball," Bennett said of the man who, in his first season at the A&M helm, has guided a previously wretched program to a 14-4 record. "Texas is stacked with (basketball) talent, but with me coming in and (Fort Bend Marshall's) Dave Devezin coming in, we'll be real good. A&M (basketball) is on the rise." With national signing day looming Wednesday, Bennett was the last of the state's top recruits to make a commitment. Earlier Monday at Boudreaux's, Westside's R.J. Jackson and Lamar's Brandon La Fell — both All-District 21-5A selections — announced they are headed to LSU. Jackson played running back, slot receiver and cornerback in addition to being a return man for the Wolves. La Fell, a receiver for the Redskins, also played cornerback for the first time this past season. During the weekend, Dallas Kimball defensive lineman DeMarcus Granger picked Oklahoma over Texas, Texas A&M, LSU and Tennessee. Marcus Jackson, who is R.J.'s brother and started at quarterback for Westside, announced Monday he will attend TCU. "It's a comfortable atmosphere in a nice city," Marcus Jackson said of the Fort Worth school. "It reminds me of Houston with just different people." The jewel of A&M's class, Bennett is the first among the group to have landed a five-star rating from Rivals.com. Texas A&M expects to sign 25 recruits, and Bennett is the 22nd commitment. Before Bennett's announcement, A&M's class was ranked No. 7 in the nation by Rivals.com. Bennett's older brother Michael, a 6-4, 245-pound defensive end, will also be at Texas A&M. Michael signed with Louisiana Tech last year but did not attend classes and signed with A&M in December. Martellus Bennett has long been a football prospect, but the 6-7 power forward has seen his stock rise in basketball over the last year. That has him still wondering which sport will get more of his attention in college. "I plan on choosing my sophomore year," Bennett said. "I want to see which one will take me the furthest." R.J. Jackson and La Fell cited the proximity of Baton Rouge, La., to Houston as a key factor in their decision to head to LSU. "We went through a lot trying to get to Florida, and it was something R.J. and I said our moms would not want to go through," said La Fell, who visited Gainesville, Fla., this past weekend. "I had to fly into Orlando and then drive to the school. It was a hassle. We want our family to come see us. That is important to us." Another factor for Jackson was the opportunity to play running back. "I just want the ball in my hands," he said. "It was real important to me to play running back. I will play anywhere as long as I play. But I do prefer to be on the offensive side of the ball. I started counting out schools (such as Miami) that wanted me as a safety." http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/3018737
I like the kids in our class, but we lost way too many Texas kids this year. And not just at the elite, 5-star, can't-miss level like last year...We're now losing the 4-star, almost-can't-miss level. Granger was pretty much expected, but Jackson and/or LaFell should have been ours. They're Houston-area(Historically, or at least in recent history, Horn-land) kids that play at need positions. R.J. Jackson may not have played RB at Texas, but he would have without a doubt filled a need, and, evidenced by most of last season, Texas can use as much help at WR as they can get. We also lost Horn-fan David Nelson to Florida, presumably because we entered the game too late.
Austin news says sounds like a lock for LSU (where his Momma wanted him to go). Reportedly, he was actively recruiting Bennet for LSU.
I hate the recruiting business. I do not like the sex orgies and alcohol abuse by under ages youth involved - and the other illegale things that go unnoticed. I hope they clean but I will not hold my breath (fat chance - money works.....). What bothers me is the moral hypocrisy involved - the don't ask don't tell attitude all in the name of win at all cost. But I guess I am in the minority.
LSU will have a sophomore QB that is better than Perriloux next year... I dont see him sitting behind Russell for 3 years.
Being personal friends of many recruits over the years here at A&M, I'm telling you that stuff doesn't happen here. Not saying players don't get unfair treatment, cause they do, but recruits and sex orgies...i mean there are a lot of hos everywhere, but the official liasons to the recruits are told strictly not to do that stuff. And besides, the sex orgies happen once you get in college. As seen over the last couple of years, we don't cover stuff up here at A&M. Sure there's a lot of stupidity amongst jocks...but that stuff is everywhere. But when it comes to being clean....A&M is a pretty damn clean program. Look, there is NCAA rule abuse....but in little ways. For example. It is illegal to make free photo copies on the school. NCAA rules against student athletes. However; you're told to give your notes or whatever is needed to your tutor, and they'll get copies for you. You see, the spirit of cleaness doesn't exist here at A&M, but I know first hand knowledge of much worse at UT. And when it comes to the big stuff: payolla, official orgies for recruites....i mean come on, this ain't Colorado.
I read on another message board that Texas would not host Rouse this weekend. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
Damn, when I was being recruited all I got were a couple of cute coeds talking to me at orientation and a beer or two from my hosts. Where'd YOU go to get this stuff Fengwu?
I don't get the 'wishing bad for your team' syndrome just to help get rid of coaches that you don't like.
For all of the good recruiting seasons that Texas has had in the past few years, this has been painful. We were so close to have a killer crop, but now, it looks like it's a disappointment. I don't remember ever seeing a group of recruits that had such a blatant disrespect for the process. I guess they knew that for the next three or four years they would have to be pretty quiet and respectable with the media. I don't know how much stock Mack and Co. put on RP's commitment, but I'm sure that they've known for a while that he wouldn't commit. But if they were surprised today, then RP should be ashamed of himself for being dishonest. Personally, I think good riddance if that's the kind of person he is. I can't imagine that RP is projected to be better than V. Young, but I don't remember V. Young carrying on like any of the way that these recruits have. They've been toying with all of these schools like it is some kind of game. I'm disappointed and I'm sure that this is the way that other schools have felt when Mack has been able to sway the players their way. I just hate that it was done so publicly. Just a few days ago, RP said that he was '100 percent for Texas' Whatever! I hope he ends up a bust. I don't hope that he gets hurt, because I don't wish that upon my worst enemy, but I hope that he gets stuck on the bench for 3 years and has a mediocre 5-win senior year.
