'Horns cut player for racial slur about Obama on Facebook

I'd put money on the fact that a black player wouldn't be cut for saying ...

"yeaaaaah, we got a ***** in the white house, no cracka John Mccain"

 

not appropriate either but it's not a death threat on the president or mccain

 

He said he got that from a friend and decided to post it on Facebook

He may have the right to think or write or say whatever he may want to say, but freedom of speech comes with consequence. And to post it on a public site like Facebook is idiotic.

I'm not saying what he said was right. No one should threaten an incoming president whatever the issue.

Texas did the right thing and kicked him off the team.

But I just wonder if Colt McCoy said something like that and would he be still on the team?

I think Mack Brown's judgment is good and I'd have to say no Colt would not be on the team, but it would take a longer time for him to decide.

 

The first defenses after a racially charged offensive comment:

1. come on, he was joking...

2. if a black dude did it...

Those are very different discussions. This is about whether or not what he said was acceptable and if the punishment was just.

If anything, this punishment should be the example for people of any race making a dumb comment like that. Instead of one race getting away with it so we have to let if fly with everyone.

Are you crazy? Of course Colt would still be on the team. There is a long history of "punishments" varying for players of varying abilities. There are few coaches/managers that buck this trend. I doubt Mack would be one of them and certainyly wouldn't blame him for whatever approach he would take.

Didn't he mean for the gun owners to hold on their guns when he said the guns comment? Isn't there something with gun owners concerned that Obama will take away their bears of arms rights?

 

Wow, are you serious? "C**n" is still a racist ass term. The intention was still the same even if he didn't say the N-Word. I bet if a random Muslim named "Samir Hamed" said a similar thing about McCain if he won, that dude would have the feds all over him.

 

That's up to him now. He's been exposed and punished for his bigotry. He can either face it and grow from this trial or he can just withdraw, harbor resentment and anger, and watch his life go nowhere.

I hope he's truly sincere with his apology and uses this setback as a way to reshape his life for the better.

 

As I said before, we use the prudent man rule in America. Free speech is allowed as long as it does not incite people to illegal action.

The prudent man rule, or the fair and reasonable person rule, helps us decipher situations like this. Would a fair and reasonable person believe that Buck was calling all hunters to execute the president and was trying to go kill the president with these hunters? I don't believe that a fair and reasonable jury would convict Buck of this. They wouldn't be very fair and reasonable then, would they?

Your airport analogy is flawed because of the immediate danger of allowing people to fly. They are actually going to be on the plane. I bet if someone was touring the White House and joked about killing the president, there would be a problem because of the immediate danger.

Jailing a kid because of something dumb he said on facebook is the most asinine thing I have ever heard. Kicking him off the team is more than justified.

 

Well the intention and punishment might be the same but at least now it is a joke that makes some freakin sense.

 

ESPN reported it differently. They said what I posted was what was on Facebook. There are people on ESPN talking about it echoing the same statement.

 

I looked on his website or whatever it is the day of and thats what the comments said it was. It makes ZERO sense the way you put it.

Obviously it is offensive either way but where is the joke with the way you said it?

 

It really doesn't make sense because I have never heard of anyone hunting raccoons.

 

What makes you so sure that he was trying to make a joke? People have said racist things with no intentions of making a joke. I heard that he said the N Word also.

With hunters it works on 2 levels literal and racist. The other way it really only works on one level, the terrorist/racist level.
