The only parade the Hornets will be having is the crowd of people that burn their stadium after they trade CP3.
HORNETS FRONT OFFICE IS SO EFFIN DUMB!!!!! COLLISON FOR ARIZA??? 1ST ROUND PICK FOR BAYLESS??? THEY'RE CRAZY!!!!
Wesley Matthews time. I see him playing PG with that second unit. He supposedly played point during preseason and impressed the Blazers with his ball handling skills. Wes/Rudy is a tough bench combo. Few teams can put up similar talent at the guard positions off the bench.
Great move for Hornets. Bayless is a gem and hasn't even spent a lot of time on the court. For a protected pick? Great deal.
You do realise we're the only team considered to have gotten screwed on that 4 way trade, right? We salary dumped for a downgrade.
You'll find out if Bayless is a gem or just pea gravel. On the other hand, if he is indeed a "gem", it will be a major indictment of Nate McMillan.
By 'We' do you mean the Rockets? If so, you haven't seen much of Lee play then if you think he's a downgrade from Ariza.
This. WTF Hornets? If they wanted Ariza we could have given them a first straight up, leaving them with Collison and Ariza. Again a big face palm at Hornets management
You do realize the money we saved on trading Ariza resulted in Lee and Brad Miller, right? Personally I'd rather have a backup C and SG over Ariza, esp. if those backups fit the system better.
I doubt the Hornets would have traded Darren Collison and James Posey for just Courtney Lee and cap space, but the Rockets thought they could upgrade from within or stay the same with some extra savings. It was as much to do with promoting Budinger as it was about getting equal return back. BTW, Trevor Ariza preseason stats Code: Pres Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG 10-11 NOH 8 8 27.1 0.397 0.375 0.909 0.5 3.0 3.5 1.3 1.0 0.4 1.6 1.4 9.5 Its only preseason, though
Good trade for both teams. NO needs a backup and the get a young, promising prospect who can help the going forward. On the other hand Blazers will get a 1st round pick from a team that is pretty much gonna struggle so that pick may be VERY valuable.
his TS% on that was about 52% because of his high volume of 3's and good free throw shooting, he's no kmart, but not terrible by any stroke, Ariza is the type of player that will struggle without someone creating for him (he's the type of player whose good for having the ball rotate to after they double down on the guys that get paid 3x as much, we didn't have any), as the season goes by, the with and without Chris Paul number will likely be quite diverged, similar to his with or without Kobe (or pau) performances.
if Ariza is playing the "battier" role. which is defend their best perimeter player, and be the fifth option, then he`s good at what he does. but he`s got it in his head that he can score.
The Hornets could not have made that trade, since they do not have a trade exception large enough to absorb Ariza's salary. People here are being a bit harsh on the Hornets' front office. Their moves have actually been pretty decent. They overlook the fact that New Orleans managed to get out from under James Posey's terrible deal in the Collison trade. They also overlook the fact that the Hornets DESPERATELY needed youth and athleticism on the wings for THIS season. Remember, the Hornets really need to convince Chris Paul to stay in New Orleans, and another year of aging, nonathletic wings (all while their best bench player is Paul's backup) would not have helped things. With these moves, the Hornets have more salary flexibility, youth at the wing position in Ariza (who, in case you forget, is actually younger than Aaron Brooks) and a backup PG in Bayless who is at least comparable in talent to Collison, all while giving up a first rounder they think will be in the early to mid-teens. Meanwhile, on Portland's end, this appears to be a case of having too many good players. I think Portland acknowledges that Bayless is a good player, but they simply had too many other good players, to the point where having another attractive future first rounder would be a better allocation of resources for the Blazers right now. The pick simply helps Portland more in trade discussions, which is the way that Portland will now attempt to improve its team. And, as another poster said, it allows the team to keep Patty Mills. Pretty decent trade for both teams, but only after you consider the particular needs right now of Portland and New Orleans.
Yes. @ 2.3 mil As Hollinger puts it: POR has: - $2.3 mil TE - about $15 mil in expiring contracts with Przybilla and Miller - NO's 2011 pick (probably), and their own 2011 pick - Expendable youth in Rudy, Luke Babbitt (2010 #16 pick), Elliot Williams (2010 #16 pick), 3 stashed first round picks in Europe (Koponen (2007), Freeland (2006), Claver (2009). That's a ton of young talent and cap savings that can be offered to rebuilding teams.
